Hi all,

I've never bought a polarizing filter before and I'm wondering if buying the Hoya 58mm PRO1 Digital Circular PL Filter would be a good investment. It retails at around £95 but I'm planning on buying it from Amazon for £40. The only filter I have at the moment is a Jessops skylight filter, but I've heard a lot of good things about both polarizing filters and Hoya, so I thought it would be good for me to get one. Please bare in mind that for a 16 year old schoolboy £40 for a filter is quite a lot of money, and I don't want it to go to waste! I also don't want to replace it for at least a few years, hence why I'm buying PRO1.

Any advice greatly appreciated! :)

YES! Unquestionably. I paid over £100 for that filter at 67mm because I was leaving the country the next day & I was desperate (read: desperate enough to buy from Jessops). It is simply fantastic, as long as you learn how to use it properly. £40 is a bargain, in fact I may buy one while they are that price! I have yet to find a situation where the filter isn't useful, but bear in mind im living in kenya & it helps with glare.

By the way, now is the best time to buy it (as a schoolkid.). After you leave school, things like food & bills kick you in the ass.

Okay, thank you! :)

The lens I'm planning to use it with is my kit lens (18-55mm), which is 58mm. I'm wondering however, is 58mm common in 'standard' lenses? I don't want to buy the filter only to find that when I buy a better standard lens I need a new one...
