2nd Curtain Sync

What I like about these challenges is that I get to try techniques I may have never used before, or revisit a little used technique. So, this week's DSLR Speed Challenge will be 2nd Curtain Sync. In a nutshell: 2nd Curtain Sync is a setting that fires the camera's flash just before the second curtain closes off the sensor (film).

Please post your your images utilizing 2nd Curtain Sync by 6:00 P.M. Pacific time, September 20, 2009. Subject matter is entirely the photographer's choice, but you must use 2nd Curtain Sync.

Using 2nd Curtain Sync I found to be fun and addictive, so have fun with this challenge; I look forward to your submissions.

NOTE: Don't worry if you do not have an external flash, you can use your camera's on-board flash (1D series and 5D excluded). Just dust off that manual for further details...

I did this one a while back when I first played with 2nd curtain sync. It's pretty basic but it was fun to do!

garpphoto--"Club Vegas": Ethereal catching up with reality. I like the airyness of your composition, well done. One minor thing bothers me, that of the ghostly arm of the model at the end of the capture obscures the face of where your model ends her travel in the composition. Otherwise, great capture...thanks Gar.

Monty--" Wannabee Boxer ": How in the world did you get your model to freeze for 1 second? Humorous and great composition of the subject...I would not want to get hit with that flaming fist. Thank you Monty!

Lavanut--"Rolling Nickel": Classic example of 2nd curtain sync, but a little too classic for me. I think the nickel rolling at and angle towards the camera may have been more ineresting...the possibilities are endless. Otherwise your capture is good and true to 2nd curtain sync...thanks Lavanut.

Monty, loved the boxer. What was the red light thing in his hand?

Jason, I knew the nickel shot was kinda plain, but it was one I had. I just wanted to get something in this one. I'd hoped to have more time to experiment this week, but it just didn't happen. It was a good idea for a challenge though!

Thank you for your accolades. Like most of my images of moving objects from birds on the wing to girls girating in clubs, I have no determiniation of what will happen during the process of motion until the completed image is observed. My attractive model was not known to me and was dancing (flailing about) to a modern dance beat.
I will host #116 when I return from vacation which will have me "offshore" for a number of days without computer or phone access, but rest assurd cameras in tow. Upon my return next week I will administrate my duty.

Ok new challenge comming up in a few..

Yep that was a red glow stick Chris - all summer long the tourists buy them for $3-$5 - day after labor day and you get a pack of two for 50 cents!
