Canon lists 2 hoods for this lens. I ordered the lens but haven't received it yet.

Does anyone know which hood is the better one? One also fits a 28mm, and I wonder about this.
Does this lens really need a hood? Is the front element set deeply enough to get away without one?
For those who already own it, does the hood go on like the hood on the 18-55 IS kit lens? I really don't like the attachment method for that lens hood, and prefer hoods that screw into the lens filter threads.
Any info would be appreciated.

I don't know if it "needs" one; I just keep mine all the time because it's small and unintrusive.

Just go get a cheap collapsible rubber one, and a UV filter to prevent the lens from getting scratched if you don't already have one.
