These are my first photos I've shared and I am linking them, so I hope I'm doing everything right. I have a lot more, tons of shots of flamingoes, but these were some of my favorites. I shot everything with my 40D and 70-200 F2.8 IS. I played around with shutter and aperture priority, IS was on for most, if not all of these, but the shutter speed was pretty quick, as these were all hand held. I brought a monopod but didn't use it, too lazy I guess. Shots are directly as they were taken from the camera. Any suggestions on cropping or exposure are welcome. I usually shoot vehicles, so this was a fun change of pace.
These little guys were quite friendly.

I don't know what this is, but its plumage caught my eye just as I was leaving the aviary.

Victoria Crown Pigeon. These were curious and fearless. They would sneak up on you when you back was turned to have a go at your shoelaces.

I explored more of the park this time than ever before; if you ever get a chance to visit, by all means go!

Nice shots... I guess the only thing I could say with birds, using the rule of thirds is generally employed but not always... Depends if your subject is looking left or right... Well done... Welcome to POTN bird forum... Your addicted now... ;)

Thanks Stormin_24. I thought about that a bit when I was shooting, but I often chose instead to avoid shooting people or fences in the background. When framing with the rule of thirds in mind, do you typically use the bird's eye for a focal point? I did a quick crop on the eagle's eye.

I had it in mind when I shot this, but I think I like my frame-filling shots better because I've never been able to get so close before.

Welcome to Birds. Love the eagle shot. You did that very well. Also like the secretary bird closeup.

Thanks for the kind words. I've been thinking about taking my 70-200 on some hikes lately, but it's pretty heavy. Hopefully I'll stop being a wuss and drag it out into the wild so I'll have more to post.
