I've been looking at the Tokina 50-135 ever since I planned to buy a 40D. Back then it was around 400 euros here in the Netherlands. Meanwhile, times seem to have changed and now it's 680 euros (ex shipping).
However, when I look at Digital Rev on ebay, I can buy it for 419 euros including shipping. Apart from risking an import customs tax surcharge, which is HUGE due to the EU protectionism (don't wanna get political, but it has to be said :P ), I'd risk a none-sharp lens, and maybe warranty / service troubles?
Does anyone have a good reason not to do this, or good / bad experiences to share?
For other dutchies: what would be the risk / cost of the Dutch customs surcharge in case they "catch my package"?
I bought all my other equipment locally, and I do support the idea of keeping camera stores alive. However, for almost 300 euros price difference, this seems like an option to explore...
