Photomatix and Snow Leopard

I have been experiencing problems with Photomatix and Snow Leopard, with batch processing. After batch processing two or three photos in the set, I either get a message saying that Photomatix has run out of memory, or it just terminates with an Apple window opening with the iMac's status (reported to Apple, presumably to help them debug).

I have not seen anything on HDRSoft's web site addressing this.

I am using an iMac with 4 GB of memory and have not had the problem previously. Not fixed after reboot and running only Photomatix. Problem does not occur when I process each photo individually or if the batch contains no more than 2 images to be processed.

Hmmm. I am running Snow Leopard on my Mac Book Pro (4GB RAM) and Photomatix Pro 3.2. What format are the files you are trying to combine? If you go to the Batch dialog window and click on the "Settings" button next to the "Generate HDR image" check box, you will find an option to address processing TIFFs to avoid memory issues (see bottom of attached JPEG). I batch processed 16 TIFFs using the default settings (I did not tonemap) and received no error - I did not check the box to avoid memory problems, trying to recreate your issue.

I am working with 3 Canon RAW images at a time. I batch process them with tone mapping and with exposure blending.

As I mentioned, I have not had this problem before upgrading to Snow Leopard, and I do not have the problem when I batch no more than two sets of three RAWs at a time.

While your suggestion is good, I am not working with TIFFs so it is not applicable.

No problem - I'll try pushing RAWs through and see if I can recreate your problem.

Hmmm. I just pushed a sequence of 16 RAW images through (from a 5D) with no problems.

thanks for trying to duplicate the problem. Don't make yourself nuts. I'm far enough gone for both of us.

Thanks for all who considered this problem. Turns out that it was a software issue and HDRSoft have an updated version of Photomatix that cures the memory issues.

Especially kirkt, who tried to duplicate the problem.

One more quick addition: I tried the software update and it helps but does not completely fix my issue. HDRSoft has advised that it is best to convert RAWS to TIFFs and work on the TIFFS.
