A few photos I took this weekend. First set of portraits for me. Go easy :) My subjects are usually screaming jets, cars or things that dont move.

I like the shots. The first I probably would go with a tighter crop myself. The second I would say a it might work a little better for me if the dress was not the same color as the bridge, maybe a contrasting color instead. Good job though.

I agree about the croping in the first one. As for the second one, I like that the dress matches the bridge. My only nitpick on it is that her hand kind of gets lost on the bridge. I'd say you're pretty good with these subjects.

Lovely girls, nice poses but they are way too far away and dont fill enough of the frame to be truly called portraits. Make them the center of attention.

I don't have an exif viewer installed on the machine I am viewing these with but if I did, I suspect it would confirm that you really need to open up a bit. That first shot looks like it must be f8-11 or something. You have the gear to shoot 2.8 or wider and I think it would help that first shot a ton. Like others mentioned, shoot it tighter and then crop even more if need be. Doing that at a wider aperture will highlight your subject and add a lot more impact. Also, fix the horizon on that one.

The second looks like you needed some additional flash power and a tighter crop/shot.

Open up a LOT. There is way way too much distracting detail in the background.
