I generally just put the cap in my shirt pocket with a kleen-ex .
This year in Mexico - I was trying to get a jack rabbit w / a mono pod , XTI , 35-350 . Never got a good shot - after 15 or 20 minutes decided it was camera shy and stopped chasing it .
The lens cap had mosiure beads on it .
I do have a bad knee and start day with 2 asprins [makes you sweat more] , it was in the 90's at 8 in the morning but the water on cap got me wondering how other people keep their caps handy and dry .The kleen-ex generally work .
The string-ee things - I don't like when walking .
I also had a handel thing that clamped on a mono - pod to use as a cane . Anyone know who makes it ? I used it to keep mono pod from sliding around in gun rake in truck and ended up giving away . I have not owned a truck with gun rack in 20 years .

when a lens goes on my camera the cap goes in my bag. the cap is replaced when the lens is removed.

I always have a lens on the camera body . The body cap in not even in gear bag . When the / a lens comes off , it is to put a different lens on . The lens botton [?] cover is put on the removed lens .
The one I am asking about is the one that covers a filter . [this one was for a 77 mm filter .]
Sorry , I only know it as a lens cap , I thought the other was a lens bottom .
Anyone know the correct names ?
lens cap - front ?
lens bottom rear lens cover ?
Cap rear of lens ?
body cap - goes on the camera body ?
Canon says the lens cap is e77u front and call the other a dust cap [rear attaches to camera] BUT what the book says and what it means don't always translate correctly .

i don't use that cap as long as the lens is on the camera. if the lens is on the camera for two wqeeks the lens cap stays in the bag. i use the front cover for storage only.

Here is my routine.

I always have a lens on my body.

When switching lenses. Lens cap goes on. I always keep it in my right front pants pocket, always. That way I don't have to think where I put it or search for it in a bag.

The "new" lens.... stored in my bag vertically, with rear facing up. Rear cap comes off. Lens is removed from camera, rear cap gets put on and lens is dropped into the bag. The bag has a free slot so there is room to drop a lens in without having to remove a lens.

New lens gets pulled out of bag and put on camera.

Lens cap gets pulled off and put in right front pocket.

I think having a routine is a good thing. You don't have to think and the movements become quick and safe with repetition.

Hoods are always the first or last thing that gets moved.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

To set the stage -every lens has a "designated" home compartment in my bag. When the camera/lens combo comes out of the bag, the lens cap comes off and goes into that compartment. If I change lenses, the old lens cap goes back on that lens (which goes back where it came from) and the new lens cap comes off the lens and into the compartment the new lens came out of.

In the (unlikely, but not unheard-of) event that I need to use the lens that's currently on one body on a different one, I also carry a spare rear lens cap and body cap in an outside pocket of the bag.

Thanks , I don't have a problems as long as I am close to my camera bag .
When walking , wandering or chasing something [rabbit , butteryfly , grasshopper - the camera is around my neck .
If chasing something , the lens cap goes in my pocket .
This year was hot and after 1/8 to 1.4 mile following /chasing a jack rabbit , I gave up [downhill] .
When I went to replace cap and it had beads of water on it . Ended up using gauze from belt 1st aid kit to dry before going back on lens . I keep kleen-ex in pocket to keep cap dry and clean sweat from my glasses , but did not keep cap dry .

I do much the same as r.m or it gets thrown into the bag loose, but obviously I don't work hard enough because it's never damp.

Well, I prefer a tee under a regular shirt as well, but it was when you used the shirt pocket for your lens cap that this thread started, so . . .

I use two cameras and don't carry lens caps...

Normally, I will shoot with two cameras with lenses mounted. I leave the caps in my camera bag (or backpack) depending on what I am using to store the cameras/lenses. I don't usually have a lens cap on my cameras when I am out shooting.

Additionally, I usually don't carry a camera bag when shooting. I wear a Domke Photo Vest and I carry my gear (except for the two cameras and lenses which are on an OPTECH Dual Harness) in my vest.

I transport or store my camera equipment in a Lowepro backpack or a Lowepro rolling case; depending on how much gear I am transporting and how I am transporting it.

As an example, I am going to China in the spring and I will be both flying internationally and on domestic flights within China. I understand that China Airlines is rather strict about the weight of carry-on baggage and the weight of my rolling case would eat up the majority of my allowance. Even though the Lowepro rolling case is of the proper size to carry onto the plane, its weight restricts me from carrying it. I am going to carry my gear in my Lowepro Mini-Trekker AW backpack. That backpack only weighs about two-pounds empty while the rolling case weighs about ten-pounds empty.

Depending on what size your lens cap is; you might be able to use an OPTECH Filter Pack to store the lens cap. This is a two sided pouch. You could use one side for the lens cap and the other side for a CPL filter. Just pop it in your pocket or clip it on your belt.

Thanks , That sounds like what I want - I ordered 2 - looks like they clip will on camera strap . [7.50 each at Adorama] I stack my filters , UV 1st then CPL - KSM .
Sometimes sap , pollen , rain , even finger prints jump onto filter so I keep spare filters in bag . Easier to change than clean on spot .
But chasing things , I don't carry much - hat , camera , cane , small 1st aid kit , small thing-ee of pepper spray .
I tried a vest but looks goofy at weddings , parties baptisms , quinsanaries . Hiking -too many thing for bugs to hide in and snags on just about every brush branch .
Thanks again .
This will allow me to carry spare filter and cap [yes I have lost a few .]

Anyone know the correct names ?
lens cap - front ?
lens bottom rear lens cover ?
Cap rear of lens ?
body cap - goes on the camera body ?

Lens cap, body cap, mount cap (or "rear lens cap").

Yes. Doesn't everyone discover this?
