What is the difference between an EOS Rebel XS and an EOS Rebel XTi?

My EOS Rebel XTi backup body is DOA at the Canon Service center and they can fix it for a flat rate of $190 or I trade it for a refurbished Rebel XS for $359. I am not sure what the difference is between these two bodies

thanks

I've only owned (still do) an XTi, never even held an XS, but here's their reviews.

Personally, If you have to fork out money, i would say go XXd, or atleast go T1i. Just my 2 cents! Good luck!

Plenty of comparisons made there.

I think Gary has at least a couple 1 series bodies, so this is more of a backup/3rd body. I believe he keeps an UWA or fisheye on it most of the time.

Here's a good comparison table:

Things to note in my mind:
-XS will use an SD card instead of a CF card
-XS will use a different battery than the ones for the XTI

If it were the same cost for both then I might upgrade, but since you have to pay quite a bit more I would just stick to the XTI.

Eh, for $190, I would fix the XTi. The XS gets you liveview and.... pretty much nothing else. It actually has slower burst and a worst center AF point. If they were the same price I would say think about it, but not when you can "buy" an XTi for half the price.

Thanks for the input; this forum is such a great place to get answers!
Yes I shoot events with two 1D Mark III bodies and I use my rebel with a fisheye lens as a way to get quick portraits of players, it works pretty well for this due to the 1.6 crop and shoot huddle shots like the one below. This has now become one of the most popular shots in paintball since I started do this several years ago
