7D Pricing and 50D...

I am concerned that the 7D pricing being significantly higher than the 50D won't push the 50D pricing down enough. I currently shoot a 20D and decided against the 30D and 40D upgrades because the change in pixel density was not significant enough (none on 30D and 10MP on 40D). I am holding out on a 50D but need to wait until the body gets to ~$700 before I can justify it and keep the 20D as a backup.

Will there be a 60D or is the 7D it?

Go for the 50D. Its priced reasonably enough. Even the 40D doesn't cost $700.

Why is pixel density a deciding factor for you?

silvrr: pixel density is not the only deciding factor as I believe that there are a significant number of feature improvements that would help me, however, I am not willing to pay significant $$$ for those alone. I am not a professional, and the few $$$ I make selling photos of sporting events pales in comparison to my investment in the hobby.

Do you mean pixel density or total pixel count?

For sports have you looked into buying a used 1DMkIIn? The price is coming down on them and they are still a great camera.

If you plan to wait till the 50D falls on a 700$ price range you'll have to wait a good amount of time
The refurbished 40D price has gone UP to 799$ with no lens (I got mine for 799 with the kit 28-135), not down since the beginning of the year

I do think there will be a 60D, don't know when, the 7D is a different breed of body

Then you'll have to wait till there is a market of enough refurbished and used 60D on the market, enough to make the 50D go down.
So a long wait, as the 60D is not even a rumor at this time and Canon just announced the 7D which is not even available

The 50D is reasonable priced at this time
It will go down but very slowly IMO
