I've had this problem twice. Almost exactly a month apart.

When I press the menu button to turn it off it goes black a second and then comes back on or it opens the picture styles. Press, press, press. It will not shut off. Press the shutter and it takes a picture, shows the image preview and then goes back to the menu or picture styles. Turn off the power, turn it back on and the menu or the picture styles comes back. After about a minute of this and then one of the presses shuts the menu off and all is fine. I can not duplicate it.

Like I said initially, I've only encountered this situation twice. Has anyone else seen this problem? Any ideas? I hate the thought of sending it in for service when I can't duplicate it at will. Thanks.

Is it this menu that is showing up?

And/or this one?

Both are activated by buttons on the back of the camera (INFO button or the Picture Style button). Perhaps you're pressing one of the buttons by accident?

As I indicated, the window just won't shut off. Press once turns it on, press again turns it off. Off does not work until after several minutes and twenty or thirty tries. No, I'm not pressing anything by mistake. But thanks for your response.

FWIW, this menu will not shut off unless you turn it off (by pressing the INFO button).

It will do what you say... be on, you take a picture, the preview comes up, then once the preview turns off, this menu comes back up.

Otherwise, no, I haven't had any menus stay on or pop up inexplicably.

Although it is pretty disconcerting when the display has a life of its own, I hate to send it in if the repair facility can not duplicate the error at will. Unless they would just take my word for it and replace whatever cards control the display, it would undoubtedly come back untouched and fail in the future.

Make sure you have the latest firmware. I saw this problem once before I upgraded. Haven't seen it since.

Thanks jetcode. The initial episode was prior to the upgrade and I assumed it was a simple aberration or the firmware had fixed it. Nice to know that someone else has experienced this.

Your not doing it right.
First off, you need to calm down and answer the questions properly.
Then we can help. Don`t answer the question with some other rant.

Now...Like timnosenzo Asked....Is it this menu that is showing up?

If you have pressed the info button the display will turn on every-time.
You need to turn it off by pressing the info button until it`s off. Then it shouldn't come on until pressed again.

You know DrDiesel I think you are right ... the one time I experienced this there did seem to be a relationship with the info display.

So much for reading the manual right?

I think everyone has had this happen at some point. I know I did, but I was able to figure it out without over reacting...;)

Thank you for your response. Perhaps I didn't make myself clear in my initial post. The screen will not shut off. Press, turns screen on. Press again, screen blinks, stays on. Press again, screen blinks, stays on. On and on. Turn camera power off. Turn power back on, screen lights up again. It will not shut off for several minutes of repeated pressing button.

I am not new at this, and no, I am not pressing any buttons by mistake. This is either a hardware or software malfunction.

OK, I'll try again, and I'll keep it real simple. I turn on the menu by pressing the Menu button and format a CF card. I press the Menu button again to turn off the menu. The menu will not turn off. Please see my above post for the continuation of the process. Thank you for your response.
