My local camera shop just lost a customer. I just went in to print one 8x12 print. Stuck on next to the computer screen was a note saying "Print lab currently having service. 10 minute delay expected". I approached the lab operator before I finalized the order to make sure it could be done by 4.30pm which she said it would be ready to be picked up by 4pm. So I went ahead and printed it and payed for it. Went and had something to bite and came back at 4.10 only to be told that I can pick it up next Tuesday due to workload of prints. Asked them to cancel the order and for a refund as I needed the print for tonight only to be told that it was my fault that I didnt make sure with the operator (Which I did). So I told them to jam it and walked off without the print or refund.

I believe in my Bunnings training part of Customer Service section covered is NOT to blame the customer?

Sorry for the rant all but it made me very angry.

Regards,
Cameron

Sounds like you got shafted Cameron... pretty disappointing of them to lose a customer over a few dollars' profit, isn't it :)

Cameron, I would be infuriated. Sometimes, training for these people is just not enough, they deserve a slap in the face.

That sucks Cam. If you push hard enough you could get the refund though. It's illegal not to honour it.

Apprently it is part of their "Terms and conditions" not to give refunds for prints. I asked to see them and she walked off to go see her manager. Manager didn't even make a appearance.

I bet if I mention the Consumer Affairs word I would of got somewhere but its not worth bothering about for 8 dollars.

Cameron

Is anyone interested in photographing Parklife in Melbourne? I need to know ASAP. Start of October, I think the long weekend.

It's unpaid, but you get a mediapass.

Bugger, they are just plain silly!

Talking about rants, and it ties in with my cadetship problem.. But first, I shall answer:

Bugger... though what discipline in engineering are you going for? There are heaps of branches that are well worth your time if you care to pursue... and then again, it just also depends on what your interests are... Good luck though with what you decide.

I'm studying a Bachelor of Civil Engineering/Bachelor of Commerce (majoring in international business) double degree. So far in the engineering side of my subjects, I haven't really done anything relating structural engineering (unless you consider mechanics of solids, but that's just foundation stuff) so I can't really say if I want to go into that area or not. However, last semester I did a 3rd year course in Roads and Highway Engineering. It gave me a taste in REAL engineering, as up until then we had been studying more fundamental subjects. Now, I'd gotten a distinction in that subject :p, so I do LIKE this type of thing. It's very interesting..

So, enter the cadetships. Getting to the end of 2nd year I think that I should try to get some work experience in an engineering environment. My dad pointed me to an ad on Seek.com by Bankstown City Council, for a 1 year civil engineering cadetship in their Roads and Infrastructure department. It um.. also paid nicely (more photography gear please! ;)).

Now applications close tomorrow night, so on the weekend I had been slaving away to hash out an awesome letter to respond to their selection criteria, etc. That usual kind of thing. I think I also spent 4 hours with my dad getting it perfect. That's not an experience I want to repeat (his mannerisms can get on my nerves ).

Ok, so once that was done, we were able to proceed to step 3 (out of 4) in the application. That's when I was greeted with some additional information:

Must be willing to go to uni ONE day per week, and work for us FOUR days a week

Now, anyone who has done a BE knows that the workload isn't exactly.. light. It's usually 20+ hours a week (while my Art's friends are bumming around uni on 11-12 hours). And then, even if one was do to it part time.. there is NO chance that you could possibly get classes on the same day. This all of course meant that I wouldn't have applied in the first place, had I known those additional criteria. And that's the thing that gets me.. why couldn't they put that at the BEGINNING, with the other really obvious and vital information.

I guess the only consolation is that I've got some kick-ass job application stuff written down.

/rant
