Then all the smoke that was inside the electronics has come out and it won't work any more :p

One of the first things I learnt as an apprentice electrician many years ago...

Smoke:

All electronic devices contain smoke, this smoke is what causes them to function correctly. When electronic devices die it is because this smoke has escaped. Sometimes this occurs because of a slow, un-noticeable leak which over time empties out all smoke until one day you try and turn it on and it no longer works.

Often the event is more spectacular with the smoke being released rapidly in a visible puff. Trouble is that some only contain a small amount but some contain lots of smoke and the spec sheets don't say how much.

There is no way to get the smoke back into electronic devices - once you have let the smoke out they are cactus.

Wow. http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/825738 (external link)

Used Mark III's aren't anywhere near that cheap usually right?

Edit: Before anyone jumps on me, I know that's in USD, but with the AUD so strong, the difference isn't great at all.

Yeah, that's the main reason I wouldn't do it if I was seriously interested in a Nikon body, not that I have many lenses or much to lose value wise right now.

Right now i have
5d Mark II - Worth probably about 3k
24-70 - $1500
70-200 2.8 IS - $1800
50 1.4 - $350 or so
100 macro - $550 or so
40d - $800 or so
580 EX II x2 - $900 or so.

Give me around 9k AUD to play with, or 8.3k usd.

Could pick up
D700
Nikkor 24-70
85 1.4
and the new 70-200 2.8 Vr II when it comes out
2 x sb 900

Or... i could just sell the 40d and dump the cash into an elinchrom quadra set... decisions decisions.

Just did first nude shoot with my Mrs. She was rather nervous but after I showed her a couple of photos she loved it.

post is useless without pics :P J/k Dude.

In other news... really liking lightroom 3 beta... Vignette is better and the slideshow output is also great, can now output to video, and sync the length to a song.
