A couple of questions about using FD adaptors on 1D MkII.

I have just bought an el-cheapo adaptor, because I have some old FD lenses from my AE1 that I'd kinda like to play with, as they have sentimental value and they've travelled the world with me and taken some memorable shots. Plus, I always thought they were good glass.

I knew that the cheapo adaptor wouldn't do infinity focus, but it goes nowhere near, which kind of reduces its usefulness. I was hoping to do portraits and stuff, but it looks like I will only be doing macro !

So, question 1, is does anyone know if there are there any half-way decent ones that will at least allow focusing for 3-5m type range ?

Secondly and more importantly, if I do take a shot, I get an Err01 and the shutter opens, but won't go back down. Err01 seems to be related to the camera not being able to talk to the lens, which makes sense. Is there a way I can tell the 1D Mk II not to worry about that any more ?

Thanks.

Is that error only happening when the FD adapter is attached? If so, just check that the pins on the body side of the mount are not being shorted out by any bits of the converter or lens. Otherwise it should work...

Maybe try using different shooting modes... M, TV, AV and see if it makes a difference.

Some tax from my newly acquired 35L last night.

Thanks Brenno!! Great to have met you :)

Matt sold his 35L? He'd only had it since not far into the year!

Just got an email from PRA about lens price drops.

85L - $2767
16-35 - $1928

5DmkII - $3395

Wow. That 5D2 price is... staggering. Dropping it by what, $500? It's been so popular, you'd think they'd keep the price up because people are willing to pay for it. Interesting.

Yeah, only when the FD adaptor is attached, works fine otherwise. Google tells me that people seem to have to tape the pins on the body, then also use the adaptor half locked on.

I was hoping someone around here had experience with these things, I dunno if I am too keen on that idea.

No worries Anthony, and great to meet you too. I'm sure it will bring you lots of fun times shooting with it.

Yep, it's been sold. Unfortunately, it just didn't get the use it deserved. A stellar lens that was sitting in a bag not being used in preference of the 24-70, AKA, the workhorse. Shame really, but it's in good hands now.

Easy there Tiger... I'm still here Philthy, just lurk moreso than post these days. I do still check in every couple of days to see what sh1t, sorry stuff, you all are talking. :p Must be time for a 'MO' update shot mate...

And, whilst I'm here, I'll be selling my Radiopopper P1's and STE-2 (RP's are 1 transmitter and 2 receivers, US freq. I think), and also my Rayflash in the next week or so. Same situation as the 35L, lack of use. If anyone's interested, let me know.
