The jobs are advertised as items on the School's intranet news thingy. Problem is, there are often over 20-30 new items (of a general nature, e.g. "Happy Birthday Professor xxx") posted each day, and it's very easy to miss something like this unless you check the site religiously. Since most students doing maths research often don't go to uni for days on end, that's quite alot of items to check each time you're in (100+). Basically, I found out a month late, so I applied a month late.

What's even more funny is I still have a chance of getting it, because they're usually so short on people teaching these silly little bridging courses. Apparently last year, they barely had enough people and had to nearly cancel some classes. Fingers crossed that hardly anyone else applied this year also.

A MONTH!!!!

:-)

I'm over people abusing the language.

I couldn't either. And the eBay units at the time were too unreliable for paid work. It was a toss up between the Skyports and Cybersyncs. Since I already had AB radio units I just upgraded them to the Cybersyncs. I've not regretted that move.

How, exactly, do you 'upgrade' PovertyWizards to Cybersyncs? Electronics genius?

At least you found out before you'd made the purchase - last time my contract wasn't renewed, I'd just (that very day) bought two new 580exIIs and an iPhone 32Gb 3GS outright - $2300 all up and then get told.

'twas ok, we had reserves, and they brought me back three months later, but yeah, timing could have been better.

Yes definitely glad I hadn't stumped up for some new gear right now. I'll have to be frugal until something new (and hopefully better) comes up.

Do you want me to call you a nerd again?

Just finished giving a 5D mark II tutorial to a guy.. I love it when students listen properly and take in what you have to say.. makes teaching so much easier.

Best example I ever saw of this was a bloke using a stofen, with the flashhead on a 45deg angle, outside. I think he was looking for a bit of fill off some cloud.

How about straight up  haha
(yes i saw a 'professional' wedding photographer doing that in Edinburgh)

On a different topic, what sort of speech day (at a school) speaker is the commissioner of the corruption and crime commission hahah
And ewanski, how you like the 480/590 combination? i dunno whether to spend more and get two 590s or get a 590 and 480...

Noob.

Argh, having second thoughts about the 5D II again. I rarely use centre-point and I need the damn peripheral points to be solid. I don't seem to have much of a choice there besides a 1-series (or a bloody 7D, or even more anti-climactic, just keeping my 50D).

Col, do you use or want the high ISO performance that the 5D2 brings? If not, think about a 1Ds2? Or go for that other option, 1D4 :p

Yeah, I need high-ISO too. 1D IV is the obvious choice, but boy, I'm still not sure I can afford it yet. Perhaps I can get Dangus' family to adopt me, so his daddy will buy me a Mark IV too.

Full-frame has some inherent advantages I'd really like though - superior subject isolation capability, large bright viewfinder, maximum awesomeness for my 70-200's FoV range. I've been spending the last hour going through threads on the 5D II's AF. Most users seem 'Okay'ish with the 5D's off-centre points, it seems.

What's the weathersealing like for the 5D II? No probs shooting in rain?
