I've had a major disaster. I think I have lost all my photos.

The external drive I mentioned about formatting earlier was my backup drive and it screwed up while I was transferring all my photos from a 1TB internal drive.

I was having trouble with the formatting of the USB drive so I went into partdisk and accidentally deleted the partition on the wrong hard drive. I did it to the internal drive where ALL my photos going back to 2005 were. And my backup drive if f*cked so I think I've lost the lot.

I'm trying the VitrualLab recovery software to see if there is anything I can recover but I am not holding out much hope at this stage.

Does anyone have any ideas?

That's also happening soon. ;) Noticed a 5D II with roughly 1,000 actuations went for $2400 a little while ago. What a steal.

Interesting ;)

I think a 24L or 135L is next for me. If i get the 135L, i'd sell my tammy 70-200

When its something that serious, I would take it to a professional straight away.

Sorry to hear that Richard. I'm with Tupperware, I'd probably send it in.

I'd get a 24L if I stayed with APS-C, but I'm not. With both FF and APS-C, I've got two fast, convenient WA FoVs available to me by going FF. :)

How's the 50L? I'm thinking of buying one..

If it is extremely critical to your business, it may be worth the cost.
Best of luck on recovering your data Richard

I think that's probably what I'll do.

What a crap week. Losing my job then losing my photos.

It looks like it will cost me a grand or more to use a data recovery service.

I'm serious considering jumping on that 16-35 II. If it has a critical flaw (AF doesn't work etc.), then I can get a refund by law. For something more minor, I can always sell it off and I'm sure I could do better than that BIN price. Heck, that infamous 16-35 certainly went off and I made a healthy profit in the end.

Sorry to hear that mate. Sometimes bad things like this in life just happen all scrunched up together. I'm sure it can only get better from here..

50L has been amazing. It's opened up many new shooting opportunities. But has encouraged my Prime L addiction. Damn money flies..
But primes will have to wait. PS3 Slim in the new year :)

A Grand for data recovery service? Thats pretty steep! I didn't think it would be that pricey.. I would have guessed ~$200

Either way, I highly suspect the seller isn't stupid and doesn't not realise what a bargain $1250 is as a BIN price.

Richard, what do we do with this sentence? :-)

I got my data (600GB) back off my screwed up primary drive with http://www.easeus.com/ (external link) - if you want it, let me know.

cheers, juice (Canon shooter, Elinchrom lighter, but pretty much agnostic on brands.)

I think Richard's estimate is pretty correct, unfortunately.

Not explicitly. Instead, I let him come to my office at uni and made him thoroughly inspect it, which included making him take shots in scenarios which would show the focus shift. He didn't notice anything at all, and that was good enough for me. Moreover, I gave him a generous return policy incase he changed his mind for any reason.

Well, if you need cash, I'd be willing to buy the 50L off you. :p
