You're shooting at noon as well so that sucked for creative lighting!

I think the curves have something to do with the placement of the horizon during your "pre production" ;)

Oh man, shooting at noon. I also had to take the Squadron's group photo. Imagine the cadets are standing on chairs on the parade ground, as though they are getting a school year photo. Now here's the kicker - they are wearing those same hats, so due to the angle of the sun, their faces are in shade. And then I have to consider that their uniforms are incredibly light, and that the background trees are dark and in shade. :O

+/- 1/3 auto-bracketing saved my ass :p

I think that's probably what I'll do.

What a crap week. Losing my job then losing my photos.

It looks like it will cost me a grand or more to use a data recovery service.

Hey mate,

Not sure if its already been covered, but I did the same thing (only on a smaller scale = my dads flash drive with all his business book keeping backup files) a couple of years back.

I successfully used a program called iRecover. (google it or use a torrent etc.) I think the retail version will set you back about $80 or so. I just used the freeware version and had to do it folder by folder (SLOW!) but it worked a treat. Recovered the entire contents of the flash drive with all file names intact and directory structures. Might get you out of the crap.

As long as you dont write over the top or the drive gets physically damaged somehow, nothing is actually lost...

Hope this helps.

Thanks Scott. I'm running Easus Data Recovery Wizard at the moment. It's picking up all the files in the scan (will probably be running all night). I haven't written over any of the files and the drive is isn't damaged so fingers crossed that I'll recover the lot.

I ran the Easeus recovery overnight and it has found a lot of stuff. Then I needed to get another external drive to save the data to. I picked up a WD 1.5TB Elements drive from Officeworks for $159 and the files are now transferring. Looks like it will take about 72 hours to transfer the files.

All files now look to have the name FILE####.TIF or JPG at the moment. I tried to open a couple of the TIF files in PS and they won't open. I can see them in the preview though section of explorer. I'm betting they are CR2 files that have been renamed.

I'm going to have a lot of work cataloging and naming all the files by the look of it.

!@#$ing Seagate - the problem was caused when I tried to back up to a Seagate FreeAgent external drive. It died mid transfer and then I made a mistake trying to reformat the 1TB drive - mixed two 1TB drives up. The Seagate drive is a replacement to one that failed on me earlier this year.

Quick tripod question, anyone use the Manfrotto 055X Pro B? Does it do the job?

I'm tossing up between that and the 190x.

Not sure on the head I'm after yet though.

I have one, no worries with it!

Good luck with that Richard and also with the job search.

@ Rai, Beautiful and Cute daughter spoilt by Dad's camera craft, spoilt rotten that is.

I was the unofficial photographer at our friend's 3 pm wedding on Saturday up at Bellingen, you can stick that up ya bum, super humid conditions with rainstorms, thunder, lightning, half the shots were soft, maybe the lens had fogged but I made sure it was at ambient so I am a bit confused, lighting changes as the cloud density rapidly changed.. no plans for time for photography, so it was all photojournalist style rather than posing. mostly just a 580ex on OCC with a lumi III on it, and 17-40, 60 2.8 macro, and some with the 100-400. All fun till the batteries in the 580 II die as they cut the cake..:o
Ah, they will appreciate any that are ok, as they did not expect any.

I loved the preparation of the groom as compared to the bridal party....

here's the groom relaxing in the Never Never River, with his son next to him and other guests, whilst the bride, her daughter, foreground, and the bridesmaids toil under the onslaught of the H&MU.

And I would probably have money...no...wait...that's a lie, I'd probably have some schmicko computer gear, or maybe that 15kg light game rod and Shimano TLD15.

Shimano TLD would be nice but then I'd need a boat to get out there
I'll settle for a stellar though :)
