He ended up with a slow as kit lens too.

I could be wrong, but I think he meant an old Canon D60.

Is this the drive that shut down halfway through the transfer?

Nope - it's my main photo drive. When I was in the disk management system I mistakenly tried to format instead of the drive that crashed.

I've taken the drive into a recovery place to see if they can recover usable files. I spoke to another one before them and when I told him about the recovered files not being readable I was told it doesn't look good.

Al, you'll love the 1D2 as soon as you get it. It's amazing.
