I was looking at light stands and 'kit' like softboxes and Umbrellas today, have no idea what to get... and from where.

Don't do what a mate of mine did, he went out and bought everything he read about people had on forums. Thousands worth - this is after buying all the cheap chit first

he has that much stuff, that he never uses, and never will use, but "I have it incase...."

That's exactly why I'm only buying one brollybox and light stand for now. I'm just going to learn with it and then order again when I'm ready.

Anyone got a decent URL for the CTP's?? save me asking numpty questions.

EG: can 1 transmitter work with 2-3 flashes?
Can you buy more recievers seperately, or just as pairs (reciver/transmitter)?

They come in sets. I've got 3 flashes so I bought the one transmitter/three receiver set for $75.

If you want to do it cheaply, Cactus V4's have been working very well for me. Haven't used them outside though, so I'm not sure how far they will work or the reliability.

I've got a set of V4's and they are a good, reliable trigger and receiver set.

I would suggest you buy new batteries when you get the kit though as they can become unreliable at best once the power dips.

Yong Nou have a new set out now that have features that i'm interested in such as the ability to use them as remote triggers. I'd like this feature to be able to do rig shots for bikes.

Here's the other shots from "Al's gallery of awesomeness" (external link)

Sorry Bruce but I think they are CT 301's that Tony was using. The strobe was from Dragon Image.....work is fooked. 3 people here down from 9. It's a bit ****e as you know so well. ;)

and yes, you can buy just the trigger without a transmitter.

one tranmitter can fire multiple triggers.

Interested in buying something used? And I use the term "used" losely. I bought the kit in anticipation for a couple of jobs that fell through so other than unpacking them out of the box and making sure that they actually work, they've never been used. Each flash would have been fired less than 10 times each. I'll be looking to off load them in the new year so let me know if you're interested.

The kit consists of...

· 2 x 300W studio flashes
· 2 x adjustable Light stands
· 1 x Reflecting umbrella (silver)
· 1 x Diffusing umbrella (white)
· 1 x Honeycomb filter
· 1 X wireless trigger
· 1 X trigger cable
· 1 x Softbox 60 x 90cm
· 1 x Barndoor
· 3 x Colour filters
· 1 X sliver and gold color reflectors
· 1 X white or black color backdrop
  • 12 month manufacturer warranty (about 10 months left now)

Ha, good question....

here's the kit that I got off ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au …ories?hash=item414aecde0f (external link)

I'd like to lose as little as possible in the sale (but know that's not always possible) I paid $750 all up (including postage which they were charging $50 at the time) so as close to that as possible. Make a reasonable offer I guess. I have a 1mx1m (I'll have double check the exact size) light tent that I can throw in too.

And just as an FYI I will be selling a lot more stuff in the new year too - 5D mkI, 50D , 24-70, 70-200 2.8 IS, 430ex plus lots of other little bits and pieces

Hmmm....well....the 24-70 is a few years old purchased from the US, perfect working order and the 70-200 I purchased from JB HiFi in the city about 2-3 months ago so it would still have balance of the warranty on it, and it's only be used a handful of times.
