I also work full time where I leave at 8.30am and get home a touch before 9 each night which doesn't leave me much time to edit photos etc (or really, to have a life). I've dropped back on the shoots now, but when I was doing 1 or 2 a week I just got a massive backlog of photos and was spending every waking moment editing photos, it was taking the fun out of photography for me. I'm not in a position to become part time, nor do I want to, so unfortunately it's the photography that has to go at the moment. I hate credit cards and I hate debt so because I will no longer be making money from photography the gear has to go to pay off the card. In regards to the gear I owned before (5D, 24-70, flash etc) it's kind of a case of all or nothing with me. And at the moment it will be nothing, I'll probably just get a cheap point and shoot and that will do if/when my current work situation changes. It's breaking my heart, but hey, it's gotta be done at the moment. lol, as much as I'm ashamed to admit it, I'm already there....or technically my house is in brookfield, but hey, melton is melton I guess. What kinda work flow are you using? maybe you just need to streamline your work flow? http://www.edwardhor.com

At least that way you can still do stuff for yourself with maybe the odd paying job now and then. I thought about that, but I think for the moment I'll be satisfied with a glorified P&S. I don't really get much time to shoot for fun anymore so I'll see how long I'll last. ed. wrote in post #9199911 What kinda work flow are you using? maybe you just need to streamline your work flow? Import photos into lightroom, flag the ones to edit, edit them, and export them. coalcliff wrote in post #9199493 sell up now and in a year or two buy it all back at 1/4 of the price! Silver lining to the cloud currently above you! That's the plan. I don't know how much longer I'll be able to last in melbourne so when I do move back north again I'll make sure I get a job that doesn't take so much time out of my life and then I'll have the time and energy to focus a bit more on photography. ~Kinnon~

That's the main question to answer for sure. I had a Canon 50/1.4 and was very happy to sell it. Not gonna get my 85/1.2 though... I've not had the 50/1.4, but have got the 50/1.8 which used to be a favourite when I was starting out on a 400D, but 50mm doesn't do a lot for me on a 5DII. The 85/1.8 didn't do anything for me at all, but the 85/1.2L is a completely different beastie, am really liking mine so far. Dave

I am the female type, at least last time I checked :P My real name is in my sig (Kinnon), but that is rather masculine as well. I've been getting it all my life so it's all good! Maybe I need to have words to the title fairy if they still hang around these days..... Avatar fairy?

Is the 50/1.8 on a 400D an adequate lens for a wedding shoot for friends who aren't expecting brilliance or should I bite the bullet and shell out the extra $$ on the 1.4 version? Never judge a person till you walk a mile in their shoes - by then it won't matter. You are a mile away and they have no shoes.
