Whatever gear you use, make sure you have a backup body.

For lenses, you want them to be as fast as they can be in their class. So for zooms, that's f/2.8 constant if possible. Many wedding togs' also use a twin-body twin-primes setup. The most canonical example of this is the 35/85L combination, although there are people who do 24/135L, 24/85L etc. A flash is also useful.

For your 400D, I can't think of a better zoom lens to do a wedding than a 17-55 f/2.8 IS.

+1, a dual body setup will not only serve as a backup but save a lot of hassle of swapping lenses.

@Mankini, still no pictures of shang yet O_O.

Alright, tips please. My lighting gear came today (apparently AusPost deliver on the Sunday before Christmas - who knew?) and with the umbrella bracket attached to the light stand, I can't mount my flash because the flash is mounted on the CTR-301P and that has a tripod thread, rather than a cold shoe. None of my flashes have a PC sync port so I can't just plug it into my CTR-301P like that. So what do I do? :)

Does your umbrella bracket have a brass spigot in one end? If you remove it you might find one end of it has a threaded male end to it.

If not, you're kind of ****ed.

Although I quite like it - the people in the background are doing ordinary things - for me it emphasizes the separate world of the foreground couple. And I love the lighting effect.

Nice one Ed. Burn out the folks in the background and she'll be sweet.

In all reality Ed, it's a very emotive photo and If I was the groom I'd BE BAN....Ahem, very happy with that photo. :P

Oh JEEBUS Mic! That looks much worse than this morning. How are you doing walking now? Better or worse?
