I've been pondering all of these monopod flash mount options. I decided just to donate a new set of down markers for the chain gang... ![]() Right now I'm using a superclamp mounted 12"-18" below my camera, but I've got a new idea that I'm piecing together... stay tuned.

This eliminates the need for a monopod and makes moving around much easier if you are int tight conditions on the sideline. Just another way to skin the cat I guess. With the 300, I need the monopod so I might as well connect my flash. Next game, I think I'll do one above and below and see what the results look like. Anyone ever do it that way? If I were more experienced, thinking outside the box like that might have happened. Like you, I'm not keen on gear being tethered to a pole either. Mobility is key. If this doesn't work out for me after a couple of games, clipping to belt is definitely the 'next option' for me as I already have the triggers! Thanks for the tip! dave you bet Dave. Now that I am seeing it though, I think Clarence has the absolute optimum setup. Crossing flash patterns to kill shadows, flash mounted way above to eliminate red eye, plenty of light and two built in assistants moving your lights with the action. It just doesn't get any better than that!!!!! Scott Evans Photography

Sep 18, 2009 21:49 | #28 I posted this in the sports talk section also. The super clamp and elbow is probably something you should have anyway so why not use them for this application. I now use only the lower flash and it's the 580. last week I forgot the off shoe cord in my car so I just went with the cybersync remotes and manual flash. 1/4 power worked fine and recycle times were fast. It was difficult to adjust flash output when the action was close to the sidelines so I overexposed a few shots but for the most part flash is the only way to get good images in our local stadium. Sep 19, 2009 12:30 | #29 Here's some results from my belt loop rig... Actually the flash hung perfectly pointing outward to the field. One thing I did notice, was when the action was right up close, the shadows were pretty noticeable... as seen in last image.EXIF: 1/250, ISO 800, 2.8, full power on 430ex.
No longer actively shooting...
