Two images from the same set of frames.
Taken with a 10D, 28mm f/2.8 lens, ISO 1600 on a tripod. 63 x 30 sec (+ 4 darks)
First image is stacked using Startrails and the second using DeepSkyStacker.

It's the region of the Milky Way around the Southern Cross (Crux). Alpha and Beta Centauri (the pointers) are in the middle at the bottom, Crux with the Coalsack in the middle, Eta Carina region at the top and washed out light pollution goo at the bottom left.

My apologies for the quality of the image. I'm very much a floundering beginner at the pp stuff.

Steve.

Very well done though...

I always wondered how to take a differing shot between startrails and non-star trails...

Is there a time limit that people should adhere to, as a max before you get star trails when taking shots for stacking?

Depends on the lens size FL . 28mm wide open prime lens you can go maybe 25-30 secs and long the lens the shorter the time before star trails unless your using some type of tracking platform .
