The Northern Flicker is Alabama's State bird, and until a few weeks ago was on my most wanted list. These were taken on the back lawn of the cottage, a long way from the great state of Alabama :)

Nice shots Scott. Boy, they are shy birds here. We have a lot of them, but they won't let you get close. :)

Scott, does this mean your cottage really isn't in Alabama? I still don't have a decent shot of a Flicker so I am obviously envious. Looking good, buddy.

they arent shy down here, but thankfully, they are running out of trees to nest in as all the rotting trees are finally falling down.

Thanks Harv...the funny thing is that we've had the cottage for 18 years and this is the first year we've ever had Flickers around!

Great shots Scott.......I live down here and hardly ever see them for any length of time. They're up in the trees but not often you'll see them on the ground.
