G10 & ST-E2 Problem

I purchased a ST-E2 from a fellow POTN member and it works great on my other DSLR cameras. I have it set on channel 2 and on the A side is a 580EX II and on the B side is a 430EX II. With the camera G10 in TV,AV or auto it will not fire the flashes. Is there a trick I'm missing?

Jon, I assume you've told the flashes to use channel 2 also?

gofer Yes to that. I have the 580EX II set on Channel 2 A 430EX II Channel 2 B . I'm going to work on this again later this afternoon. Anyone have any ideas?

Obviously as the ST-E2 works perfectly well with your DSLR it's not rocket science to conclude that the problem lies with your G10 but, as there are no menu driven control for external flash on the G10 (other than those which apply to the internal flash also - which I guess are working OK), I can only suggest that you check the hot shoes of both the G10 and the ST-E2 for a possible poor contact. In other words, is the G10 actually seeing the ST-E2? If it is you should lose the flash symbol on the rear LCD when you fit the ST-E2 and a red flash symbol should appear in its place when you switch the ST-E2 on. Does that happen? Incidentally, I've checked my G10 and ST-E2 with a pair of 580EXII's and they work OK so no reason why yours shouldn't work.

You didn't mention manual mode. Does it fire in manual mode?

If not, go back to basics. Channel 1, everything on A, 2 feet in front of the camera. Then work from there.

Does the G10 have the same custom functions as the 50D an5D MkII for wireless Speedlite control?

Will the 580ex II on camera fire the 430ex II?

I have a similar, but not the same problem, whereby I have a 430ex (not the Exii) and a ST E2 ....

I can get the flash to work, both on and off the camera in Av/Tv mode (as fill in) , but when I set the camera to Manual, so goes the flash.....
i.e. when I use my DSLR in Manual mode, the flash just indicates the effective range...... via some TTL trickery.... However, on the G10 it doesn't seem to do this and forces me to set the power on the flash manually (both on and off camera

I read somewhere that the G10 is comaptible with the EXii guns.......... is this where my issues are ?
