This is Tyler & his family. They scheduled a senior shoot and we ended up doing a bunch of family and very very few of just him. These may not be the greatest shots but I wanted to share because there is expression, every smile is not the same and NO FLASH. BUT instead of the same boring smile on every face I am going with the same boring background in every shot. My friends that like to pick me apart can now start in on these, but they will have to come up with new complaints...hummmm maybe my WB ? This is meant for sharing but it is also a joke for several folks in here so please enjoy. C&C most welcome as always.

1. Here's Tyler, with a smile and no flash.

I forgot to say.......Don't anyone tell me that I should have moved my subjects farther away from the background....Me and the family wanted the cement work to show in detail. :D:D:D:D:p

What lens were you using? I like the sharpness. I am not a light guru, so the no flash thing goes over my head! lol I know you already mentioned the background, but I don't like it. The people and their emotions/expressions are priceless though!!

My Gear: Gripped Nikon D90|Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC (for sale)|Nikkor 18-105mm VR|Nikkor 35mm 1.8D|Some lighting stuff|and no time to do anything with it!! ;)

The two family shots were with the 17-55 2.8 IS and the rest were with the 70-200 2.8 IS

The no flash joke is because many people in here use different lighting techniques. I somehow manage to shoot a lot of my seniors at mid day with blinding sun and I use my 580 flash to help me out.....on camera flash annoy many photographers and they get on my case about using it LOL. That's why I mentioned the NO FLASH over & over & over.....I'm just being a good natured smart elec! They wanted the background clear because their family built it.

Thank you for the kind comment on the expressions/emotions, that's what I was shooting for.

I love the exposure, Kathy. How far away do you shoot...and I am assuming these are pretty wide open?

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Nice work Kathy, I am never so lucky as to find natural light where and when I need it.

The white balance on #4 is different from the rest, maybe that one needed some flash

no flash - flat light.
Guess what though - I like flat light actually. I have no idea why ppl hate it so much but a reflector in this instance would be great. These came out dull and lack character. (ecept the jumping one - that one has too... many ;))

Thanks Mo! I usually shoot this type of photo with the 70-200 and I move a lot as I like to be about 10+ feet from the subject and usually 2.8 to 4.

I don't get a lot of chances to use natural light either because of the places I have to shoot at and the time of day. I don't mind using flash, the kids & parents never mind if I do either.:) As for #4, that one has a photoshop action on it which made that color.

I have no idea why people hate any type of lighting, lol. The only light in photos that really turns me off is when things get blown out by it and I am really not a big fan of extreme "fake" lighting, but that's just me. To be totally honest, my idea of a truely good photo has very little to do with lighting techniques and everything to do with the subjects expression(you were right on the point of my "Sydney" post, the expressions were all the same and BORING!:D) and how it played into the moment the shot was taken. We sometimes tend to get carried away with trying to do everything "right" and miss wonderful moments. Every photographer has a working relationship with their subject and sees what's happening at the time the shot was taken which of course gives the photo much more "likeability" to them than to other photographers critiquing (sp?) them. Every once in awhile someone elses shots will give me a feeling of what was going on but mostly I just see a pretty picture, a cute picture or a boring picture with nice lighting. Am I making any sense...or just rattling:rolleyes::)

HA HA HA>. i think i know why you posted these this way..

swweeett !! that is so funny..

the emotions and actions shoots and no flash.. LOL @ Kathy..

but the first shot is the best.. love that a simple concrete background will do the job, and it does the job wonderfully..

it cracks me up on how many senior parents want photos taken in the fall with trees and leaves.. (i tell them that that is probably the worst noisy-est background ever !!)
but you coming up with the is simple b.g. is great

i have to say great job on these..

what a fun shoot

A really nice set Kathy. I like #3, #5, and of course #7. But on #7 I don't like the dogs expression, he/she looks bored. J/K! :)
