I have been feeling like something is a little off with my 1dMII/300 f2.8 combo all summer since it seems like my keeper rate is slightly lower than I am used to and IQ just doesn't seem quite as good. I rountinely check my AF points in post and they are usually on my subject. Intermittently, I have had some very sharp shots lately until today. A large % of my images turned out like the one you see below. This is why is why I suspect there's a real issue with my gear at the moment. In one shot mode, things seem just fine and tack sharp but in Servo, sheesh! Anyone have a thoughts on what might be up?

FWIW,the lens was set to 3.5-infinity and yes, the AF was on. I'd be inclined to send both into Canon but since my 300 is the non-IS, they won't be any help. Send the body in? Anyone else ever experience this?

Scott I was having the same issues and took mine to Canon. They said the jigamawidjet (not sure exactly what it was) was off and re-calibrated it. It has been solid ever since. It cost $180 + shipping but with CPs it was $126 with free shipping. Also if you can get your subject to stand still it will help.

Were you tracking for a second? What do the frames before and after look like? Although, I don't know why I ask, I mean Hell Scott, you know if you took a good shot. If you're sure it's not you, then the dang thing is busted. Send it to me and get yourself a new one.

off it goes Monday then. Thanks guys. FWIW, the frames before and after were similar. Oddly, I have had some decent result with this body along with the bad so who knows. Seems to really present the problem in servo only but I have definitely been frustrated to see some solid action with a nice red box right on the face and yet nothing in focus. Hope its just the recal and we are money. What was the turnaround time from CPS? I haven't signed on with CPS yet since I didn't think I met their criteria as less than 50% of my income is from shooting. Maybe worth calling them to see first.

I'll get in touch with my inner techie and fire up the online app! Just finshed jotting down my s/n #s so once I get my daughter's b-day party going, I'll logon and git 'er done!

I'm just happy to hear its likely a body problem, not lens since the non IS 300 is troublesome in terms of finding someone to work on it.

Once you rule out the body and the lens I'll help you point to the next possible reason for it. :p
