Trying to get to grips with the new controls and settings on this camera.
It's a bit of a jump from the 10D.
First impressions ? ..... it's big and it's heavy and with the 100-400L plus TC it's even bigger and heavier, but it feels good and well balanced. It even sounds good.

This is my first effort at panning an in flight bird.
I will get better.
Did I mention it's big and heavy ?

1D MKII 100-400L @400 with 1.4 TC ISO 200 1/250 f8

Hey if you can get shots that good on day one imagine how good they'll be in a month or two :)

I've had mine a few weeks now and the more I use it the more I grow to love it, the poor old 20D is starting to gather dust (no I'm not going to sell it before anybody asks!)

Thanks for sharing, look forward to seeing more of your photos.

Many thanks for the kind words.

David, you're absolutely right, it will teach me and I will have fun with it.
I love the learning curve involved with new gear and the pleasure, along with the satisfaction, photography has brought me since turning digital is boundless.

Martin, I agree, it's incredible how well they sharpen.

Paul, my poor old 10D won't gather dust. It will be my camera of choice for hill walking. It's light weight will be an advantage. Also should I have a bit of a slip I would rather trash the 10D than the 1D MKII.

Thanks for viewing.

Don't know why anyone would want that camera and lens. If I was you I'd get rid of it.

Will give you a forwarding address, should you wish to take my advice.

Nice shot!

I like the shot.
I've been reading some reviews, and I don't see much difference between the 20D and the 1D.
Anybody has any experience with both cams?

Now...the 1Ds...that is something else !!!

Hi Freddy, I know what you mean.

I checked out the reviews also and decided on the 1D MK II for the following reasons.....

1. Better build Quality.
2. 8 Frames/sec as opposed to 5.
3. Larger buffer....19 RAW against 6.
4. AF at f8. Handy for the 100-400L + 1.4 TC.
4. AF point expansion.
5. Spot metering.
6. Shutter lifetime.....200,000 against 50,000
7. Better weatherproofing. Very useful in UK.
8. Less noise especilly in shadow areas.

On the downside it's twice the price, twice the size and twice the weight.
For me the above was important, for others it may not be so.

BTW, Freddy, I meant to add it was a close run thing.
The 20D is a marvellous camera and the difference in price to the 1D MK II is considerable.

The 1Ds MKII is a different proposition and completely out of my league. :(
