maybe a EF-S 15-70mm f/2.8 IS instead :D

Actually i was thinking it would be a 15-55 f/2.8 IS

I'm not sure you could do a 15-70 and keep it relatively light and compact like the current one...if they could, then huzzah to them ;)

I'm up for that. Either a EF-S 15-55 f/2.8 IS or EF-S 15-65 f/4 IS. I think these would be doable.

I would be impressed! But chances are, if they manage to make a lens with this kind of FL range and f/2.8, they would do it on a EF lens rather than a EF-S. Something like the EF 24-105* f/2.8 IS a lot of people have been wishing for!

*15-70 would actually be 24-112, of course.

but it might mean it's not made out of plastic

Plastic's not as good as metal, but I've been in the rain with my 28-135 before and lived to tell about it. Plus knowing Canon, they would jack the price up a few hundred for only a metal body.

No, no, I am very much still amused each time I see them! It's especially fun when you show them to people who ask for full weather-sealing (a la 1D) on xxD models and lower, and non-L lenses! (not to mention, many don't realize that not all L lenses are weather-sealed)

At least so far I haven't seen the same photos of you taking your gear to the limit!

I don't think this will happen. The 7D features weather resistance, but it is not completely weather-sealed like the 1D series are. So regardless of what lens you put on it (even a fully sealed L lens) won't make it a fully weather-sealed system anyway.

Well, here's something to look at:

Yup, the 7D under a shower with a weather-sealed L lens attached. Previously, it was the Olympus E-3 that underwent a shower to demonstrate its weather proofing capabilities.

Interesting that they showed that scene but made no comments in regards to it. Maybe the camera fried afterward? Lol... But I'm sure it was fine, though. I've said it before, I have exposed my 40D and 17-55 to light rain for a good amount of time on a few occasions. And KenjiS has done worse to his 30D! So I'm sure the 7D's sealing is very good, even though it is not as substantial as the 1D series. There's a reason Canon made sure to state that it is comparable to the EOS 1N. They don't want a bunch of users complaining or filing lawsuits because their 7D malfunctioned after being deliberately exposed to extreme environments!

And KenjiS has done worse to his 30D! !

So very VERY tempted when i get my 7D to see -how- much i can put the 30D through until it fails...

I love it so much because i just dont worry about it getting wet ;) Geesh, I'm going to feel invincible with a 7D!

Be careful, you may unwittingly become the official POTN ruggedness and weather-resistance tester! No problem there when the tests pass, but when there is a failure, it wouldn't be much fun.

Well, if you are able to determine the maximum your 30D can handle, you will know that your 7D can go at least that far without failing (if Canon's claim is correct). Not too bad of a trade-off?

see I'm just not sure besides doing anything -blatantly- stupid what else to do to it, My 30D has been in MANY rainstorms for multiple hours at a time, Soaked me and the camera till it looked like i dumped it in a lake, and still kept shooting and shooting and shooting..

I took it outside in sub-zero temperatures with no problems, Did long exposures in them even

-15 Fahrenheit of -15 Celsius? Well, either way, you're brave. I can handle that kind of temperature, but I'd be scared for my camera. The longest I have stayed outside with my 40D in sub-zero temperatures was maybe 7-10 minutes, at about -20 Celsius. By the way, do you do that trick of putting it in a sealed plastic bag when you take it inside to allow the camera to get up to room temperature slower and prevent condensation from forming on the internals? I've never tried this and wonder if it works.

And I thought it funny that the guy started doing donuts when he saw you, haha.

I was in Banff, Canada last Christmas shortly after I got my 450D and it was seriously cold - around -20 C and the lowest we saw was -30 C. I had my 450D with me pretty much all the time. Took in on walks for a good few hours and it survived fine. At the time I didn't even think about if the camera would be ok, bit naive I guess but either I've been lucky or they're pretty tough in cold conditions.

We must be lucky. I just looked up Canon's official numbers, the Working Temperature Range for most current cameras is 0°C-40°C (32°F-104°F), including the 1Ds MkIII! The only different one I noticed was the upper range for the 1D MkIII, at 45°C.

Farenheit, and yes i do generally try to normalize things, Also leave all my stuff open to air out afterwards...

And yes it was....

until he lost it and his car came spinning towards me and i got quickly out of the way [LEFT the 30D in the path on the tripod sadly] he saved it before it came close to my camera and stuff thankfully :) But it came really close
