Shooting baseball through chain link fence?

Hello, had some problems focusing tonight while shooting through backstops and sidestops. The entire field is covered by fence where the audience is sitting/standing. Any good recommendations/settings I should use to keep the focus on the player and not the fence while following movement?

Thanks,

Put your lens against the fence, so it's 1/8 inch away from the chain link. Shoot through the diamond shape hole of the links.

When you 'did that' did it work?

I've shot through the fence. I'd hold two finger on the fence and the lens in the v of your hand (between your thumb and first finger), kind of like how you hold a pool stick. It works...OK… but you can stand inside the fence. They are "supposed" to designate an area where a photographer can stand. It's a dead zone, kind of like the circle where batters warm up. I say supposed to because they never do. So, I just stand behind the 1st (or 3rd) base coach. In four seasons, no one has ever said anything. When the pitcher and catcher warm up between innings, I scoot behind the catcher, up against the inside of the fence and snap away. Just make sure no one from the infield is wandering around, warming up, behind the pitcher. And ... watch your head. :)

Ask the umpire if you can stand inside, against the fence. I've always been told OK. The one restriction is that you must remain standing. Also ask the coach if you can shoot from the opening in the fence for the players from the dugout.
