After my last attempt at Rugby League and getting some advice on here. I was lucky enough to get a paid gig to cover a Rugby Union Grand final at the same stadium I last took the Rugby League shots.

I started out in manual mode and got a few good shots (shot 1 is just one of them.) However the late afternoon and the big stadium casting a nasty shadow over the ground, I was having heaps of trouble adjusting all the time and missing the action and getting poor shots. (Shot 2 shows what I was sometimes getting.)

So I decided to play safe and switch back to AV and use custom WB, as this was a paid gig I didn't want to miss the action.

Let me know what you think of the shots.

Sensational work Nugget! #3, #4, #6 and #8 are my favourites here for sure. Got a good day for it too. You've nailed these exposures perfectly in my opinion.

Hope they paid you well.

I want a 400 2.8 ...... it will happen, sooner than later hopefully.

You got some great shots there RipN'Pix. I particularly like 4, 6 and 8.
The AV and custom WB seemed to work great.
Well done.
Stuart.

#6 is outstanding. I like #3 too but it looks a little too tightly cropped to me, do you have space to loosen it?

I'd like to see what happens after #7 'cos it looks like the guy in yellow/blue is going to get nailed.

I think you did right to change to AV. Excellent shots.
I had the same problem yesterday with the sun coming directly from my right. It was fine when the play was to the left of me, but a disaster when I had to shoot directly into it. AV took over, although the shutter speed fluctuated between 3000/sec and 800/sec depending on the direction of play.

Cheers Rob, Hope your Bucks day/night was a good one. Hay, you found out my nickname! did one of those dirty butchers tell you?

Keep saving those coins, you will have your 400 2.8 soon. With the way the aussie dollar is going you will have it sooner rather then later........

Thanks Ian, I just checked #3 and it actually is like that not cropped. With regards to #7 looks can be very deceiving. I do have another 2 after this but the tackle was really soft from that player. If it was me, I would have smashed him..... (That's small man talk.) :)

Yep, I was getting similar but at iso 100 I was mostly getting 2000/sec. when the action was camped in the shadow area at about 5pm, I was getting getting under 500/sec and some of the shots had some motion blur so I quickly bump my iso up to 200 which fixed that.

here is a continue on from #7
