Well the topic pretty much says it all. I haven't post processed these apart from resizing. I feel as though they are all slightly OOF. But then it does have an extremly short DOF. I'll shoot the next game @ f/3.2 see if they sharpen up a bit.

I know to shoot tight and crop tighter. Still getting used to such a long prime.

EXIF: Between ISO 100-250, f/2.8, Av, center point AF, around 1/1250
-Adam
EDIT: Wow, I just noticed how flat these look too. wtf.

Replied on SS - but send in the III immediately, but after you make sure to test the 400 on another body. I've had issues every year with my gear and sometimes is the lens and sometimes is the body.

For web ready maybe, not for large prints. Get it right in camera and cut the post time should be the goal of any photog.

This doesn't look like Bundesliga at all.
Looks like a regional club pitch to me.

Is this 3. Bundesliga?

I'm considering making the switch, but either way, need to get the 1d in the shop :o

Yes, its the lowest league. And this was the second team, as they call it.

I think there is something wrong, they should be a lot sharper. I don't think you missed focus as there isn't anything very sharp in the image. Are these RAW or JPEG? If jpeg what mode?

I thought about switching but it's a friggen expensive switch having to sell gear in this economy and buy all new. Not worth it at this point, especially with the IV coming out in the next few months.

That and the fact that the Nikon lenses are even more then Canon. The Nikon 300 2.8 is $5200 and the 400 2.8 is $9000. Ouch!

I wouldn't switch for this, this is not a normal thing that you can expect. Nikon has had more recalls and fix releases than Canon has. Canon's are smaller in frequency but make a bigger splash when they hit.

Time for a sports analogy - Canon is the fat guy making a belly flop, and Nikon does a bunch of nice dives with an entire collegiate team.

I thought nobody saw me do that belly flop, sorry about the lack of water after.

The MKIV (Dec/Jan in the rumor mill) should make a huge splash, hopefully!

We're getting way off-topic but I'm half tempted to give up the 1D and use the 7D. It really has everything I need. FPS, AF, MP, clean high ISO. Don't give a damn about the video but for <$2k it's features and abilities are very close to the Mark III right now.

Seems like a lot of SS members (i'm not a member!) have replied to you about this, but it seems like you might have a backfocus issue with the 1D III and/or 400mm. If you're a CPS member then you can send in the body and lens and have them calibrated together.

If you do any "pro" events (ie. Champions League final, Grand Slam tennis, World Cups, Olympics, the IAAF Athletics World Champs in Berlin) then CPS are usually there and offer a free service to Canon togs...they can calibrate there.

They don't do calibration at those events, well not the ones I've been to. They usually just do a cleaning and adjustments (tighten screws, etc). My guess is that calibration would require calibrated external equipment which they don't carry around.
