When are you looking at jumping into a new body?

ETA- If it were me, I would be going with the 17-40L and the 50 1.4, and hold onto the other money so a 1D could show up a little sooner.

most likely by the end of the year/early 2010, i am debating getting 1d mk 3 but i want to find out more about the mk 4 and the results of the 7d

Have you thought about the 24-70 f/2.8 ? That's a great lens . Or the 70-200 f/4 IS , great for outdoor sports .

Since you have a 17-55IS I'd say put the money in the BANK. Theres no need to buy a 16-35 with your current body. However if you want the 16-35 now so it alleviates the $$ wallet impact when you do buy a 1dmk4 just buy it.

IF you buy a body that has excellent high ISO capabilities the 17-40L constant f/4 aperature will not be a limitation. If it is a problem you should be slapping on a prime anyways.

What I'd do is sell your 70-200 f/2.8 and buy the f/2.8 IS version. The remainder $$ put that towards your 1d series.

you dont know what you want yet.
So just relax and take your time on the decision.

Were you in "need" of a new wide angle a few weeks ago?

wait it out a little longer.

Or... sell the 40d and 17-55, buy a MkIIn and a 17-40 along with computer.

Buy a new computer. If your comp truly sucks it makes a huge difference. I hated PP with my old 2001 Dell laptop, but I built an i7 PC with my college graduation money and now I quite enjoy it. Hehe.

Whatever money you have left, you can buy whatever you can afford at that point.

A better choice would be 17-40 plus a PC plus another lens...
But I like my 17-40 very much and haven't been convinced to upgrade
and I would of if I thought the other would be a significantly better lens.

I see no reason to buy a 17-40 now, if you have the 17-55. When you do get a FF, if ever, that will be the time to sell the 17-55 and make a decision on the UW.

x2. Why would you need to trade lenses now? You will actually be downgrading now so you can be ready to maybe upgrade later?
