How far away are you before you get the FF?

I would say the price of a Mac will fall faster than any of the lenses. In addition, I think the 16-35 II has an edge on the 17-40 on FF...so, I say go with the 16-35 II and 50 1.4 package...

If you've got the cash for a used 1DM3, get it...the 1D3 is a superb sports camera (now that the bugs have been worked out). The same amount of cash for a used 1DM3 will probably only be half the amount to get a new 1DM4. You could, then, sell your 40D/17-55 and use that money on a new Mac. You will still have your $2k to spend on glass. Go for the 17-40 and 50 1.4 and put $1k in the bank for a rainy day or towards a long telephoto.

tokina 11-16mm and a new computer.

if/when you go 1 series then get the sigma 12-24mm and sell your 40D and 17-55. Consider a 17-40 over the sigma if you don't need wide wides.
