Filter threads lubrication?

I put my new Kenko CPL filter on my 300 f4 IS and due to the narrow part of the filter that lets you unscrew it I had to use an elastic band to grip the filter to remove it. Is there something that I can use to lube the threads on filters besides oil?

Lubing would be a bad idea. Just don't over tighten, and stick with the rubber band method. It's tried and true.

It's not a matter of over tightening but more a matter of very dry fine threads.

probably a rough edge. a drop of WD-40 would probably do the trick.

get some white lithium grease from home depot or an autoparts store. It should come in a small toothpaste looking tube. A very, very small amount on your finger or a q-tip and put it on the threads only, then clean the filter and install. If done correctly it will not "bleed" or leak around your lens.

What happens is called "seizing". There is an anti-seize compound sold at auto stores for use on aluminum threads. However, I, personally, would never use a grease, oil, lube, etc on the threads of a lens filter, just imagine how dust, dirt, sand, etc would be attracted to it. I use only filters, such as Heliopan and most B+W, that are made with brass rings instead of aluminum. They don't tend to seize the way aluminum rings do.
