i am having a little photographers block. I am in a digi photo class and our first assignment is to bring 8 images to class about something that has to do with something personal, either a discovery or a current happening or dilemma. I chose to do my dependence on pills. no i dont take illegal pills, but i do have a cocktail in the morning and at night that are required to keep me going. I feel too dependent and feel society is too dependent on taking medication for everything. My collection includes allergy meds(allegra, zyrtec, ranitidine), multivitamins, fishoil, and stomach medicines(immodium, bentyl, lomotil), etc... I am just trying to figure out a good way to portray this situation without just taking still lifes of the meds. anyone got any tips or ideas? if you dont, i understand, but maybe you have an exploration exercise or something you could suggest?

How about setting up a shot like food photography with a breakfast/lunch/dinner of pills? You could do all 3 meals and instead of food on the plate you could put the pills.

No disrespect intended but if I saw a collection like that...I would question the sanity of the person taking all that stuff. Pick something else. ;)

i am having a little photographers block.

Isn't part of the class learning how to think creatively? Write down ideas. Start with something. Anything. Post #40:

Thinking along the lines I suggested earlier, you could get an 8 photo series by comparing your meals with someone elses - 4 diptychs with a theirs v mine spanning brekkie/lunch/dinner/bedtime cocoa with theirs being the proper meal and yours being the medications.
Just a thought. :)

I like the plate idea :)
I have an idea...not fully developed but just something that popped into my head, maybe something you can build on.
I somehow envisioned a ball and chain or handcuffs but somehow incorporating the meds. Maybe instead of a ball....use a giant pill....of course that would most likely take some PS work unless you have access to a giant pill. Maybe a doctor or pharmacy would have a giant plastic pill for advertising purposes....I don't know.
Maybe that may help spark some ideas :)

My first thought was in reaction to a promo I saw for the new season of House this morning. The way they use pills in the shot is pretty cool. perhaps that can help you springboard?

I like the food idea as well. What if you took one of those small cereal boxes (like the sample size/fun size) and fill it with pills. Then take a picture of you pouring the pills out into a bowl... that coudl look interesting!

Yeah, I totally saw a food photo shoot when I read this. I like the small cereal boxes idea.

I ended up takin a little bit from these ideas, thanks everyone. I had 10 shots for the project. two sets of 4. each set went from black and white to color, in a gradient through each picture. The first set was of a plate with 5 pairs of pills on it, the bottles for each set of the pills and a glass of water in the frame. as each frame progressed, a pair of pills were removed and caps were put on the bottles, and water was removed. for the 2nd set, i had slow shutter of myself taking the pills. it ended up coming out really well. ill post pics in b/w experimental when i get the chance
