QUESTION for wedding photogs with 1D-Series bodies...

For wedding photogs who use a 1D-Series body (specifically a 1Ds2 and/or 1D2n), do you configure for all 45 focusing points? Or do you use the 11 or 9 focus point system? If you use the latter, do you activate the "expanded assistant" focus points as well? Lastly, are you in "AI-Servo" mode for most of the day or do you keep it at "One Shot" usage?

I, personally, have been using all 45 focus points when I'm shooting weddings with about a 70% "One Shot" usage rate throughout the days' event... No complaints by me and my keeper rate is respectable... However, I've been reading lately that using the 11 or 9 point focusing system with "expanded assistant" range gets a higher keeper rate and focuses on target just a bit faster... Any comments would be greatly appreciated... I'm curious to know what everyone else's experience is on these matters... Thank in advance...

I shot my first wedding last weekend. I used a MkIIn and a MkII as backup. I had them on 45-point and AI Servo. There were a couple of times that AI Servo caused a shot that I wanted to be missed because of tracking another moving object. I will be reading up on what you're discussing. Thanks for the information.

I use center point for focusing only. I just dont understand how the camera knows what focus point you are going after? If you are shooting at 2.8 and have a bride in the foreground and the groom in the background but you want the groom in focus, how does that work? Doesnt the 45 points select the object with the most contrast? In my example that would be the bride which would go against what I would be trying to achieve.

Am I missing something?
