If you were asked for an idea to include 1 (feasible) feature into the next body what would it be? I don't mean clean ISO or 100fps, a new idea that isn't in any body yet, might be interesting to see some ideas where canon hasn't picked up on.
It can be anything, software, hardware, design, function etc...

My idea? I think built in storage for video files would be useful, send photo's to the card, and send video directly (and quickly) to the on board 32GB memory for instance.

How about you!

a autofocus system that was actually good.

It isn't my first priority but i think an universal radio trigger integrate in the body of a photocamera could be interesting.

A DSLR shooting in Live View does not use its physical shutter.

Oh yes it does. If you use live view on a Canon camera today, the first curtain running across the sensor is electronic, but the second curtain is the mechanical shutter. The first mechanical curtain is of course already open when you start taking the picture, or you couldn't see the live view at all.

The reason for this, says Canon, is that with CMOS, you can't implement a precise enough second electronic shutter curtain. Today.

The G11 syncs at up to 1/2000s using an electronic shutter on a CMOS sensor.

I like the idea of auto AF adjustement.

I shoot a bit of motorsport and it will be interesting to have speed bracketting keeping the exposure right. let's say 5 images : 1/30 ; 1/6o / 1/125 ; `1/250 ... I could get the perfect panning in one go.

DOF bracketting : same idea as above but with aperture : f/2.8 ; f/5.6 ; f/8 ...

a way to limit AF range in camera. You select one distance with the camera, another one a bit further down then the camera auto focus between these two points.

PS : if canon could stop using the actual currency converter : 1$ = 1 £

Canon 7D upgraded from a Canon 40D + Canon 24 -105 L is + Canon 100 - 400 L is + Canon EF-S 10 -22 mm + Canon EF-S 60 mm macro + Canon 135 L + flash 580EX - my web site (external link), Zenfolio (external link)- and also on Flickr (external link). :)

Last thing I heard was that the G11 uses a CCD, not a CMOS. With CCD, this is no problem.

I double checked, and I was right. It's an interline CCD from Sony.
Many can't tell the technical difference between CCD and CMOS, so you are forgiven. I happen to be an electronics engineer.

Only feature that would really help my photography would be this:
The insertion dot on lenses should have a weak LED. It could be triggered by shortly touching the mount frame, and be lit for about 10 seconds.

Why? Try putting lens on in pitch black room and you'll see.

I was thinking of something like a weak LED mounted on the underside of the viewfinder housing and shining down to light up the alignment marks on both the camera and the lens. Could be triggered by the same button that lights the top LCD screen.

GPS

I think this would be extremely useful considering how much more information you can get within the EXIF data. Of course the ability to turn off the GPS would need to be standard if by any chance you want to keep your privacy and exact location unknown when shooting family, friends, and children.

Rotating LCD flip screen into the size of a canon s5 IS point and shoot. I don't really care about having a mirror flip screen if what you see through the viewfinder DOESN'T AFFECT THE FINAL IMAGE! I'd rather be looking at the final image in an electronic viewfinder so that I can get a true idea of what i'm working with, rather than "it looked good in the viewfinder..."

this is an excellent idea imo. i dont have the privilege of owning two bodies so i often have to swap lenses in a dark concert... pita..

i would also love a programmable button on the front of the camera near where my right middle finger would be when i hold the camera.

17 replies and nobody has yet mentioned having a MLU button?

a dedicated button for one function? Why? The new M.Fn. button on the 7D, replacing the FEC single function button of the 1-series having is programmable is a much better idea than having a button that a large percentage of users will never use because I would say few camera users have a tripod these days.

It's a CCD made by sony, not CMOS.

It doesn't have to be a dedicated button but Canon doesn't even offer MLU as an option for the buttons that are programmable. The Q menu on the 7D makes AEB much easier to access so I'm happy with that but right now the only easy way of doing MLU is with LiveView.

As for tripods, everybody I shoot with has one. Obviously they don't take it with them everywhere they go but it's usually at least in the car just in case.
