Didn't like it that well. Harder to pan the camera without tilting shots.
Try leaving the collar lock unscrewed and hold the camera so when you pan, the camera and lens rotate inside the collar. Not as easy to do with a really big lens but works very well with a 70-200 once you get used to the motion.
I have no desire to shoot a 70-200 on a monopod and about the only time I do is when trying to do really slow shutter speed panning shots. I find it way too limiting. For me, it is generally on a second body and only gets used for stuff as it gets closer. Most of the time I just grab it and shoot one handed while holding the bigger lens on a monopod in the other hand. One of the advantages of being a big guy I guess.
To anyone using a tri-pod on the sidelines, stop now, regardless if the local teams don't care. You are asking for nothing but trouble and risk causing injury to yourself, a player, a fan or a combination of the above. Injuring someone because of your tri-pod will lead to a lawsuit so fast your head will spin.
