Didn't like it that well. Harder to pan the camera without tilting shots.

Try leaving the collar lock unscrewed and hold the camera so when you pan, the camera and lens rotate inside the collar. Not as easy to do with a really big lens but works very well with a 70-200 once you get used to the motion.

I have no desire to shoot a 70-200 on a monopod and about the only time I do is when trying to do really slow shutter speed panning shots. I find it way too limiting. For me, it is generally on a second body and only gets used for stuff as it gets closer. Most of the time I just grab it and shoot one handed while holding the bigger lens on a monopod in the other hand. One of the advantages of being a big guy I guess.

To anyone using a tri-pod on the sidelines, stop now, regardless if the local teams don't care. You are asking for nothing but trouble and risk causing injury to yourself, a player, a fan or a combination of the above. Injuring someone because of your tri-pod will lead to a lawsuit so fast your head will spin.

Exactly! There is no reason for a tripod anywhere near the field of play. A monopod is your friend when shooting sports be it a 70-200 or a 400 you will learn to appreciate it and once you do you will kick yourself for not using one sooner.

There's one photographer here.. she's about 5'5 and actually carries her 40D with the 70-200 F2.8 .. around her neck! I can't even imagine attempting to carry that weight on the neck.

i sling mine around my neck if i am not using that... it goes between my light arm and my body but over my neck... so taht isnt abnormal... it isnt badd at all with the POTN strap.

I'll carry it over one shoulder and over the other arm where the shoulder takes some weight from the strap and the other arm some.. but I can't imagine carrying the weight on the neck the way I see her do it. Maybe I need the magical POTN strap myself?

Everyone's got to be known for something. He's like Elton John, only he wears green shirts instead of goofy glasses and hats.

Hehehe yes. Ex. 7 backpack, Northface backpack with food, water and a jacket. Kinesis case with my 300 in it. My friend took that with his cell phone. I did catch this shot so it was worth it.
