I recently took myself on a "photowalk" vacation in San Antonio .. took these shots at La Villita, the site of the original village which buildings now house artisans and restaurants. Shot with an XSi using a 17-85IS. C&C is appreciated, as always.

I think the first would have been more balanced had the planter been on the far side of the window? The muted colors are nice though.

Second photo.I get the sense of focus being in the middle..the bottom feels OOF to me..

I really like the zones/planes that are present in the second shot. Pity it is somewhat OOF or blurry. The colors are great too.

Second shot is my pick, but it suffers from not being sharp as most things with that much texture do; very obvious when not sharp.

I am Henry. NOT Hank. And certainly not a length of rope tied in a knot. ;)
My family calls me Hen, but you can call me Chicken. See you out there!

Thank you both .. I definitely see that the second shot isn't as sharp as it should have been -- that will teach me to take more than one shot at different settings when I see something I really like while on a photowalk. I have a habit of taking one shot and moving on... unfortunately, can't retake since it's in another city.

I am anal. I take at least three shots of the same thing if the time allows. I always[99% of the time] have the same setting.lol.but different lens'.

Ahhh, there are plenty of subjects like that door. Do not feel defeated. Just live, shoot, and learn, and then shoot some more. :D

I think you have composition down pat pretty well now.

I was taking a gazillion shots of the same thing a few months ago -- still have to go thru my HD and delete everything but the keepers. Still learning, but having fun doing it. Thanks again, Flo.

Thanks, AlphaChicken .. I'm pretty comfortable with composition now. Something about that doorway - the colors, the textures - just called out to me, but I'll have to be more careful from now on to make sure I got a clean shot before moving onto the next thing that catches my eye, lol! Thanks again!

#2 thumbs up for color and composition. The sharpness issue has already been covered.
