Here are my first attempts at any road bikes, my god they are hard to keep up with.

I'm no expert, but I'm working on the same thing ... panning-technique.
My results are about the same as yours in the first 2 shots.

Last one seems a bit soft in colour, best of the 4 though.

I was thinking more of a contrast adjustment.
Tell me what you think, this is sort of a tutorial for me too :)
Might have overdone it a bit.

could be a little sharper. but i like the shutter speed, shows the speed and has great spoke blur. keep at it. roadies are a pain to shoot. the guy in the lead in number one looks great.

Thanks, it's a rare opportunity for me to take roady pics as I dont drive and live in central London

canybo, I will look later when not at work as it appears as a red cross, prob due to firewall at work!

I shoot a decent amount of cyclecross. What's helped me with panning is to focus where you need to on the road. Then throw it in manual focus and don't touch it. Pan pan pan snap where you previously marked. Great shots btw, road racing is much faster.
