I returned mine after one day. Nice looking lens, feels good, nice MFD, etc. But...it just wasn't sharp enough for me. Perhaps my other lenses spoil me.

I have the 150-500 and I think it is a great lens.

100-300 is pretty nice. F/4 throughout. Obviously not as long as the 100-400. Good reviews as well.

i think if you want that range the 100-400L is a better choice :D.

Thanks for the replys guys. Ed your right but this is an insurance claim and don't think they will go for a 100-400L.

I've used the 120-400 OS before. A friend of mine has one and I compared it to my 150-500 OS one day.

The 120-400 is lighter, but not only that it feels lighter too even though there isn't MUCH difference in weight really.

Both are sharp and are equal in IQ. Neither one is better.

Personally, I like my 150-500 more because of the range it affords, but if you have an opportunity to get the 120-400 definitely pick it up.

I had a 150-500 briefly

Besides the weight and handling i found it to be a pretty good lens..

I played with the 120-400 and own the 150-500; I prefer the 500. The extra reach helps.

I tried both the 120-400 and the 150-500.....The 120-400 I had was not a good choice for me, not sharp, AF issues, sent it back after 3 days for the 150-500, which was a very sharp lens with great AF......The IS went out after about a week.....Not doing that again...Good luck

D. H . F, thanks for that, nice review and some good shots to go along with it, again thanks to all who replied. Hopefully will be getting the lens some from the insurance company. Will let you know what I think of it.
