First of all I want to thank all you guys and gals here. This forum and the people who post here have been an invaluable resource to me since I got into this obsession of photography about 4 months ago. So thank you!

About 1.5 weeks ago I noticed a hummingbird outside my office window and decided to buy some feeders and put around the backyard.

The little guys (now numbering 3) decided to stick around and on a lark I decided to try and shoot them. Previous to this I don't think I have ever seen a hummingbird and if I did I didn't pay much attention to them.

My first few days worth of attempts were blurry, frustrating and generally awful. But tonight I finally had some success and took quite a few shots that I'm happy with. The composition is bad I know, but for tonight all I was worried about was sharpness.

My biggest improvement came when I upgraded my flash btw...I'm really enjoying the speedlite.

My backyard is really dark and covered with oak trees so I'm going to try and get out earlier in the next few days and hopefully the light will improve. I'm really enjoying this :p

Very nice captures and welcome to POTN... My suggestion is to not be so tight on the crop and possibly using the rule of third's here would be helpful as well..

Thanks for the response, I totally agree.

This was only meant as a proof of concept. I was having trouble earlier in my experiment with hummers so I wasn't too worried about composition and framing. Now that I know my current setup and method takes pictures I'm satisfied with I will start working on composing better photos.
