Note to self: I gotta' stop wasting time reading threads like this. When you see a thread entitled "Nikon is Racist", walk on by, Dan... just walk on by.
Absolutely right. That's what I should have done!

In that view finder I see a whole lot more than just my wife's eyes. I check the back ground, check AF focussing on the right spot, check exposure settings, watch my baby daughter's facial expression, watch out that she doesn't run out of my frame, etc. There's a lot of stuff going on in a family candid shot and it would be helpful if my camera could help me take care of the most mundane tasks. Needless to say, a film camera won't ever have a feature like this since there exists no image processing facility for undeveloped film. RDKirk wrote in post #8700376 This does not strike me as a worthwhile feature...and I suspect a lot of photographers of Asians will turn it off. I have worked with many people of Asian origin, but never once in my life I cought myself thinking "please open your eyes when I talk to you" or similar. There are many jokes about Asian eyes, but obviously Asian eyes are open enough to reveal their pupil, so a decent image processor can reliably classify their open eyes as open. It's also obvious on the pics in the Nikon ad. I don't try to play the political correctness firing squad here, but I'm stunned that people in a photography forum know so little about the anatomy of human faces Discovery is not accidental. We discover only when we make ourselves ready to receive and photographers seek discovery by mastering their craft. But it begins somewhere else. It begins with daisies, kids, awful scenes, falling in love, or growing old. It begins with that which matters to you. And it ends with visual statements that express what matters to you about these things. It is not sight the camera satisfies so thoroughly, but the mind. - Christian Molidor

RDKirk Adorama says I'm "packed." More info | An extra features isn't automatically good to have. And it may not even work in real-life use. But a manufacturer still have to spend a significant amount of time adding new features just because lack of features will make them lose more customers than they lose from having one extra (and possibly borked) feature. Time to get a little bit Amish in our buying mentality and ask, "Is this really going to improve my life and the lives of my family? Hmm. Not really. I'll pass on this one." My point was that if this feature frequently makes such errors as to interpret Asian eye shape as "closed," then people who frequently photograph Asians will turn it off. ANGRY!!!! Now I now know why we all like Canon! I wouldn't have been so irritated here, if that picture and this "joke" wasn't like a year or two old already. Seriously? Grow up. http://www.Michael-Bernard.com
