Sorry Andy, I don't.

I never once switched live view on.

I actually meant the focusing screen in the viewfinder :D
Some are complaining that it cannot be changed for a "high-precision" manual focusing screen - they can't use LiveView in all manual focusing situations - I wondered whether the extra brightness from the new VF might combine with an updated "normal" screen to allow good MF..

Tx
Andy

Simon, Thank you so much for posting these photos. And thank you for sticking to your laurels and not posting up sample images just to address pixel peeker's apprehensions. I really believe this is where Canon targeted this camera. High speed capture with a ridiculously fast and complex AF. And your images show how capable this camera can be, and will get better as you become more familiar and there are improvements in RAW support.

Nice shots Simon! It has been a lovely day today.
How did it balance on the 120-300? I assume you were using a monopod?
From your comment about the lcd image and raw being so far different, I guess that must be "the in camera created jpeg thumbnail" process that's been used elsewhere by Canon.

I like the sound of the AF and viewfinder.

10% ebay coupon + 8% Bing cashback.... Great thing was that the Bing cashback was instant, weird how sometimes I have to way 60 days and other times I don't. The last one was for $40ish and I had to wait, this was for $136, and I got it instantly. I am disappointed you didn't believe me, but that feeling will wear off sometime mid-week!

it's instant with ebay and if you use paypal.

Simon, IIRC, you do own a 1 series body right?
So would you say the AF on the 7D is on-par, or at least very, very close?

I was hesitant about getting the 7D with one of the kit lens as I had my eye on the 17-55mm L lens but now looking at the performance of the 18-135mm I am really happy with it. Seems to be a great walkabout lens to have it with me.

Just took this one a few minutes ago while testing the lens. Got the bigma to try tomorrow, and fingers crossed if the weather is good will be playing around with it for a few hours :).

This one was from RAW conversion. True, the RAW files are huge, around 24MB each and the jpg ones also around 17MB. But I love the possibilities it gives to crop the images aggressively. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw what the image was giving after cropping it heavily still :)

Yeah...I know.
Just curious to see what Canon actually did.
Did they take the xxD AF system and added the extra points while the speed/accuracy remaind the same, or did they actually base it off the 1 series.

What it sounds to me is that it's an entirely new system. It sounds like it's closer to the 1 series than anything else, at least on paper.

I remember, pre 50D launch, there were at least a few people claiming that the AF was actually better than the 1 series. We all know how that turned out.
