Motorsports isn't a great test of the AF though.

Have to disagree sorry. Trying to track a vehicle going pretty quick isn't the easiest thing in the world.

I realize this would be yielding to darker forces but I'd like to see someone take the 7D and go re-create RG's Track and Field series that was at the core of the 1DMkIII AF debate/debacle.

Let's see the 7D track a sprinter or hurdler coming head on.

Motorsports isn't a great test of the AF though. Football, soccer, low light sports, sports with start/stop type of movement and varying speeds and acceleration and random movement really test the AF.

This is simply an ignorant statement

You are buddy, but hey, I'm with you. :p I'm also thinking it would handle it extremely well, given the embarrassment Canon suffered over the whole Mark III debacle. Chances are, Canon made sure the AF on this new baby was absolutely spot on before release IMHO.. but we'll see.

The 17-55 should be an "L" lens but it's not, it's priced like one and matches or exceeds optical performance of L series zooms.

how can the 17-55 IS exceed an L lens when it doesn't even fit the cameras that EF lenses were designed for? that's the whackiest thing i've heard in the last hour :D!

I've been waiting for this comment to arrive. Clearly tracking objects moving at well over 100mph isn't a test for an AF system as you rightly say.

Everyone - take note of this and please don't draw any conclusions about the effectiveness of the AF from the pictures I've posted.

I've had enough of this. In between demands for high ISO comparison shots and comments like this, you can all draw your own conclusions about the camera from someone elses shots and feedback.

Simon.

I take it by "in the last hour", you're referring to the 7D vs. 1DsIII thread. :D

Simon -- your pictures are fantastic but so are your pictures with the 50d and it's probably waaay to early too compare the two cameras.

Sorry Simon but as soon as you made your OP, you put the chum in the water...

The images look good here and Thank You for being the sacrificial lamb. Enjoy your new piece of kit.

i don;t understand why you would make a thread broadcasting that you just got the 7d ... and then get upset when people ask too many questions..

you kinda asked for it...
