My baseball season came to an end this week with games Sunday and Monday. I've been shooting for the Lake Erie Crushers (Frontier League) in their inaugural season and this team is the real deal, so much so that they clinched the league championship (3-2) in a 13-10 slugfest against the River City Rascals on Wednesday night. Monday was obviously do or die just as Sunday was and things were looking questionable until Andrew Davis cleared the bases on a 5th inning grand slam to give the Crushers their only runs of the evening. Great game and despite having some gear issues (see some of my other recent posts on this) it was great to be there. Did the best with what I had to work with in terms of AF issues and frankly, I think most of the images are crap (the client likes em though!) but without further delay, here's a few shots, exif included

1.

2. This is some seriously sad base running....out by feet!

8. How bout a grand slam instead, I own this plate!

#8 is a winner! If the ABJ covered the Crushers in more detail, that one would have made the story. Nice shooting.

Thanks. Guess when you have the Aeros that close, the Crushers don't get much play. At least Cleveland finally has a championship!!!

They took a big chance with this club, built a beautiful new facility in the midst of a tough economy and it really panned out. Got the win and had the 4th highest attendance in the league. Not bad for a first year club. You gotta come up for a game sometime, its probably not more than a 50 minute drive.

I believe the Aeros also won the eastern conference or a divisional championship that wrapped up last weekend as well.

My last Tribe Game was last night. Another 'snoozer.' It was my wife and I and another 40 people in the bleachers. Our tickets are front row left-center field.

My question is this: When are these kids (Crushers & Aeros) going to be ready so we can stop watching AAA baseball at Progressive Field? We've been asking for our money back because we were sold MAJOR League Baseball and we're getting AAA (at best) from the Tribe's roster and performance. It's been a long, sad season for Cleveland.

Pretty sure that the Cav's camp is opening up in days!

Nice shots. :-)

I have been away from the board most of the week, what's the latest with your gear?

Was this the park where the little kid got whacked with a ball?

not sure about the kid but not while I was there.

Gear wise, I have recently found that my AF was completely whack in Servo. So much so that I had the camera boxed and ready to ship to CPS. Fortunately I asked around SS and got a ton of help including advice from Clark Brooks who suggested that I simply reload the firmware. I did so last night and did some weak testing and it does seem to be much much better. It got to where I could put the box right on the chin and there'd be nothing in focus at all. One shot was fine but Servo was a trainwreck. I'll test it better tomorrow at an XC meet but so far, so good. I had to shoot this game mainly with the 30D or with the 1D in one shot mode. There's definitely a difference in performance but at least I got what the team needed.

PM if you really want the theory behind why the firmware reload could be the fix.

Very nice work Scott. Went to a few Crushers games over the summer, that's a really nice park. Looking forward to being out there with CSU this fall and next spring.

If the end of baseball has got you down, cheer up! CSU basketball is just around the corner.

BTW, I read your post in another thread about volleyball. You should get to some of the CSU Womens Volleyball games sometime. The action is really fast and there's lots to shoot. I've really enjoyed the couple games I went to.

Rich, thanks man. I already got my credentials approved by big Bri for NCAA hoops season so I can't wait for it to start. I'll be happy to do some of the ladies games this year as well if you want. I'll pm you my cell (I lost yours, sorry man) but I'd love to talk about the VB thing. I'd be into giving it a go.

Nice shots Scott - images 5 & 6 have a 'camera-shake type' of effect in the bokeh. Not the traditional bokeh look.

Cheers !
