Firmware features added to the 7D Poll ideas

Like it says we would like Canon to add these features in a firmware update which we would be willing to pay the R&D costs plus a modest profit for them. I think this would separate Canon from all others and would also go a long way towards building and locking in your captured customer base. Not to mention building good faith as well.

I will start with a few ideas I would like to see added to the 7D. I think these ideas could be used on other bodies as well.

1) The mirror lock up feature should be tied to the self timer button press. This could be added as a custom function in the C Fn tables as a yes or no option added to the self timer mirror lock up.

2) AEB widened to + or - 5 stops.

3) After the picture is taken let the image pop up on the rear display showing the AF point magnified at 5 or 10 times my choice and the histogram overlayed semi-transparent on top of the image either combined or RGB my choice. In a black bar below or above the image place the shutter speed, ISO, aperture, flash symbol (if used/fired) selected mode ie Av,Tv,M etc, and the AF type symbol, AEC,AEB,FEC if used.

I like all of these, but if I were to get just one, it would be #3 with #2 close behind.

I know this sounds like a lot but on my 50D I get a lot of stuff that IMO is not needed such as the picture style, the RAW symbol which I think most if not all know what they are shooting, the lens MA +- #, Adobe RGB or RGBs, Date, time and file number. These could be in a second level as I see little value in having these on top but others here may have a differing opinion.

I think this is enough to get the juices flowing. I sadly do not know how to do a poll so I hope someone who knows how, could look this over and then add these ideas in a poll that would allow multiple choices. Can you do it by preference like 1,2,3?

Also how about at the bottom a price poll too for the firmware Again say 3 chioces in priority.

1) Free
2) $5
3)$10
4)$15
5)$20
6)$25
7)$30
8)$35
9)$40
All the way to $100 in $5 increments.

Let's let our imaginations run wild. No idea is wrong or right. What I want is a lot of ideas so the poll will be nicely filled out and we will have a lot of choices. I think we should be looking for 4-6 features in each offering, so perhaps when it is listed we can limit our choices to say 6 items if this is possible to do in a poll feature here.

I am looking forward to what you come up with. Now let's hear from you.

I would say adding 5 - 7 shots to AEB. This would be great for hand held HDRs.
I would pay $25 for that one.
Going to have to play with the 7D to come up with more ideas but that one jumps out.

I thought AEB was already widened to +/- 5 stops. You just can't take more than 3 exposures in the bracket without changing the settings.

But I agree with New Hobby that 5 & 7 shot AEB would be great.

According to the 7D users manual page 105
+ 3 stops in 1/3 increments for 3 consecutive shots.

AEC is + 5 stops 1/3 increments. Page 104

I stand corrected. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I'd love to see Canon build in auto focus stacking much like Magic Lantern has. I'm hoping that Magic lantern is ported soon to the 7D.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

It's still only 3 shots. That's the problem. It would be great if they upped that to 5 or 7.

I may be missing something but if the AEB went to +5 stops the 3 shots should do HDR pictures just fine.
