I ended up in Santa Monica last night with 2 of my photo friends and we decided to set up some flashes and try to get complete strangers to let us take some portraits. Let me know what you guys think... Be as harsh as you want. I won't cry and remove them if korrektor says something "mean" about them

Some of them seem really "hot" to me. Otherwise, interesting take... I like the random street thing, that's cool.

I think they are a little hot also. It was tricky getting the flash even on all the different skin tones in very lo lighting. It was interesting shooting smack dab in the middle of the street. I suggest everyone try it!

I agree that some of these look a little hot, but it's tough to balance the lighting when the background is that dark. You should try it again some time, but include an interesting street background.

my buddies that went got the background in. i dont know why mine was so dark, but i'll for sure work on that next time. we got so busy at one point i didn't have time to mess with the settings. we actually had a line!

Along with getting the lighting balanced, I would also like to see some variety in poses, zooms, etc. With all of the photos shot the exact same way, they begin to look like passport photos, after awhile. For example, #2 looks to have a somewhat serious expression on her face. It would be interesting to have her looking away from the lens and slightly upward... just to add a little interest to the shot, if that makes sense.

Cool concept. I might have to rip that idea off, one of these days!

different poses is a great idea. i should have bossed them around a little more :-) couldn't really try different zooms because I was shooting with my 50mm.

Really like the first one after that they appear to be too close to the light source. I would suggest bringing a little bit of masking tape. Take a few shots before allowing people to line up and see which distance looks best once found put down a piece of tape. then should be able to get more even lighting. Shoot in manual for different skin tones just adjust your settings up or down accordingly should not be too much trouble. Really a great idea. If I would do this in China we would have a very long line for sure.

I like them but the lighting is a bit strong. Maybe dial the flash down a touch or even use a gel to cool it off a bit.

Jon.

Haha my bad. I don't have your number or I totally would have. It was spur of the moment anyway. We plan on doing this again for sure. Maybe down in Venice next time. I'll let you know

What's a concept I would have never thought of. I will have to get the balls to try that sometime. Are you giving the people you shot their picture or are they expecting not to see them?

I like #4, It would have been even better if he was looking at you on that shot.
