It's useful when editing posts. When information becomes irrelevant or outdated its easier (and better) to strike-through the text instead of editing or deleting it.
It's an easy fix in vB.

Putting code round outdated text is surely more time consuming than deleting it...

Not really.. you select the text and click the strikethrough button.
It's a good habit to keep the post than delete it... makes you look like less of an asshat for editing/deleting your post :p

It migth be however since Pekka is busy working on a big forthcoming change to the forum I doubt he will have time to add bells and whistles to the current version. (don't ask when and what but it will be awesome when it comes)

is he moving to a different platform or something? It may be a moot point, as most forums have strikethrough as a default feature.

I really like the strike-through feature that other forums make available because it lets you read a poster's message with the before and after words, like a living document going through revisions. I think of it as a nifty feature to better understand someone's thinking process. But I guess I'm nerdy like that. I would definitely use it if it were implemented here.

Why would anybody want to use strikethrough.
Actually, now that I think about it, strikethrough could add something useful to online communication...

I think you and I both have been spoiled by the strikethrough... once you use it you find it indispensable :P

Well to be honest I only see the usefullness of strikethrough in one place on this site and that is in the marketplace otherwise I do not see what it adds to the forum. Most edits done here are spelling and grammatical corrections and who cares about history on those?
